Job Description
The undergraduate program director (UPD) is a full-time 12 -month faculty member that serves as the primary nurse administrator of the Grant County, Kentucky campus.
Primary Responsibilities
General
  • Develops the fall, spring, and summer course schedules in consultation with Associate School Director and Clinical Director.
  • Implement relevant policies of the University, college, department, and degree program.
  • Accountable for conflict resolution with students
  • Assigns faculty workload each semester in consultation with Associate School Director and Clinical Director.
  • Works with the School Director/Associate School Director to determine the revenues and expenditures in the school budget
  • Serve as a point of administrative contact for undergraduate students enrolled in the program at Grant County, Kentucky.
  • Provide periodic reports on the program and data to the school director, associate school director, dean and others as needed.
  • Provides regular updates at the School of Nursing meeting or BSN meeting
  • Develop and maintain materials related to program accreditations and re- accreditations.
  • Carry out additional program-related responsibilities as specified by the school director or dean.
  • Accountable for conflict resolution with faculty.
  • Communicate relevant matters to the program faculty or its committees as needed; inform the faculty of university policies, deadlines, and programs as appropriate; and forward recommendations, nominations, and other information from the faculty to the appropriate university administrators.
  • Conducts annual performance evaluations for undergraduate nursing faculty in conjunction with Undergraduate Associate School Director.

Recruitment
  • Attend recruitment events as needed.
  • Ensure that all promotional materials (print and web) are current.
  • Respond to inquiries from prospective applicants.

Admissions
  • Participate actively in admissions to program as appropriate.
  • Participate in new student orientation and welcome events.

Curriculum/Program Assessment
  • Assess faculty, course, and field/clinical experience needs based on enrollment.
  • Serve on Curriculum oversight and Program Evaluation Committee (COPE)
  • Coordinate program development and curriculum revision.
  • Responsible for entering assessment reports in Weave
  • Recommend and initiate program changes based on needs within the community and/or field.
  • Ensure that program descriptions on the department web site, catalog, and other printed materials are current and accurate.

Administration
  • Develop, revise, and enforce program’s policies and procedures in collaboration with Associate School Director and BSN Program Director, main campus.
  • Ensure new faculty are oriented relative to their position and responsibilities in the program.
  • Serve on nursing advisory board
  • Monitor time to degree.
  • Recruit, hire and train part-time instructors as needed in collaboration with the school directors or associate directors.
  • Ensure that student, alumni, and employer surveys are conducted on a regular basis as part of program assessment.
  • Keep program information – policies and curricular information – current on the website and in a program handbook.

Clinical administration
  • Secure/organize observation experiences as necessary (ie: OR observations)
  • Serve on Curriculum oversight and Program Evaluation Committee (COPE)
  • Place students in appropriate clinical groups
  • Conduct various SoTL projects to study the effectiveness of the clinical curriculum
  • Review clinical site evaluations (which are completed by students). Report data to COPE
  • Ensure student requirements for each facility are up to date
  • Work with BSN Academic Assistant to develop clinical tracks each semester
  • Post clinical groups for students each semester
  • Work with Main Campus Clinical Director for clinical make-up, clinical faculty orientation and mentoring
  • Serve as the liaison between the practice partners and the BSN program
  • Utilize CCPS to secure clinical placements for the AY
  • Work with Academic Assistant to ensure students are placed in appropriate clinical groups (ie: student athletes)
  • Revise the clinical curriculum in conjunction with main campus based on program evaluation data; student, faculty, and facility feedback
  • Collaborate with the Simulation Educators to develop appropriate “on campus” (simulation) clinical experiences for all clinical courses
  • Make clinical site visits
  • Hire clinical faculty
  • Review clinical faculty evaluations and complete annual performance evaluations
  • Assist clinical faculty with development of student action plans when necessary
  • Establish clinical sites, create clinical affiliation agreements as needed in conjunction with compliance and legal
  • Analyze annual survey data (employer, graduate, exit surveys)

Mentoring & Promotion of Scholarship
  • Provide information regarding internships/practicums/clinical placements.
  • Oversee the procedure for students to apply for appropriate certification and/or licensure in the discipline as needed.
  • Serve as a resource for academic advising.

Teaching/Service/Research
  • Participates in University and community service as available, where applicable
  • Participates in teaching one course per semester/teaching didactic courses or labs as needed
  • Participates in scholarship according to specialty and interests, as able

Qualifications
  • Must meet SACSCOC requirements as academically qualified in the field as stated in SACSCOC 3.4.11. “For each major in a degree program, the institution assigns responsibility for program coordination, as well as for curriculum development and review, to persons academically qualified in the field. In those degree programs for which the institution does not identify a major, this requirement applies to a curricular area or concentration (Academic program coordination).”

  • Doctorate or master’s degree in nursing or related field focused in nursing education or the teaching discipline

  • Leadership and/or management experience.

  • Preferred 5 years in higher education

  • Certified and licensed in the appropriate discipline as appropriate.
