Title: Program Coordinator

Location: Hybrid - Lansing, MI

Purpose: This position functions as a professional coordinator to the Division Director for the Office of the Advocate for Children, Youth, and Families (OACYF) with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) Bureau of Coordinated Children’s Health Policy and Supports. This position is responsible for supporting the Division Director across a range of activities, including researching various issues/challenges within the division; representing the division across the bureau and department in meetings and workgroups; serving as a liaison to external entities and contractors; collaborating on cross-department policies, budget requests, grant proposals, and other items; managing strategic priorities; analyzing data; and extensive writing of a range of documents. The position will also create presentations, write talking points and briefings, conduct special projects, and coordinate various assignments within the division and across the bureau.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Review applicable laws, policies, and other pertinent sources to inform decisions.
  • Support the division in execution of assigned projects.
  • Compile information for timely completion of necessary reports.
  • Research information for presentations and assignments.
  • Respond to requests for information from internal and external partners.
  • Assist other division staff with identified projects.
  • Make informed recommendations regarding systemic changes based on work conducted by the division.
  • Serve as coordinator to the OACYF Director and represent the director in meetings and ongoing workgroups as requested.
  • Ensure coordination and alignment of division work with other department goals within the bureau.
  • Prepare PowerPoints and talking points; make public presentations on behalf of the division.
  • Asist with grant and contract development and oversight as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Work with identified stakeholders as needed to achieve goals.
  • Develop relationships with entities including, but not limited to: Prepaid Inpatient Health Plans (PIHPs); Community Mental Health Services Programs (CMHSPs); public and private child welfare partners, Community Mental Health Association (CMHA), Association for Children’s Mental Health (ACMH), and other identified stakeholders.
  • Always represent the best interests of MDHHS and MPHI.
  • Facilitate meetings/workgroups with internal and external partners as needed.

Qualifications/Requirements:

Education: A bachelor’s degree in human behavioral services or public health required; master’s degree preferred.

Experience: A minimum of 5 years of professional experience working collaboratively with child-serving human service systems preferred.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements: Job may require moderate physical effort including lifting materials and equipment of <35# and involve viewing CRT or VDT screen 50 to 75% of the time. Standard office environment; may require occasional participation in off-site functions. May require valid vehicle operator’s license where needed to perform the duties of the position.
