Production Manager


Job Location: Plymouth, IN


Job Summary:

Responsible for overall production operations and standards within their department including continuous improvement of operating results by meeting schedules, controlling costs and inventory, and maintaining quality results across assigned shift(s). Direct and coordinate activities concerned with the production of company products by performing the following duties personally or through supervisors


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Revise production schedules and priorities because of equipment failure or operating problems, in conjunction with Scheduling, Purchasing, and other departments as needed
  • Establish group and individual accountabilities throughout assigned departments for problem-solving and cost reduction, both on a permanent and unplanned basis. Encourage use of GEMBA walks and focus on fact-based problem-solving using RCA’s in place in accordance to the established triggers
  • Complete and ensure department is compliant with all trainings in a timely manner, including Alchemy
  • Review, develop, and implement methods, procedures, and reports to eliminate operating problems and improve product quality
  • Provide direction, accountability, mentoring, and feedback to Production Supervisors
  • Complete investigation and corrective action for all customer complaints on shift
  • Develop, mentor, and evaluate Production Supervisors and other employees
  • Manage departmental performances and activities for shift, including training and qualification needs for shift and employee evaluation completion
  • Ability to perform all Production Supervisor duties and perform in their absence
  • Conduct production meetings and assure operational documentation is understood and proper procedures are implemented
  • Lead/Participate in Safety Committee for shift and follow up accordingly
  • Ensure all processes are followed on shift, such as timely and accurate paperwork completion, WIP documentation and rework completion, overrun management, product rework completed timely and accurately, sanitation effectiveness, etc.
  • Train, interview, and evaluate any new Production Supervisors
  • Maintain housekeeping in all areas
  • Drive plant training department objectives
  • Participate in HARPC, Food Safety, Food Defense, Internal Auditor, and Safety Committee programs
  • Ensure continuous improvement as a part of every operation and effectively implement it throughout the plant
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate production activities and priorities to obtain maximum efficiency of operations and profit
  • Assist with all discipline on shift
  • Communicate shift needs to appropriate departments, such as all HR discipline, time and attendance, overtime, downtime events, etc.
  • Initiate plans and processes which minimize manufacturing costs through effective utilization of manpower, equipment, facilities, materials, and capital
  • Promote a team atmosphere, take pride in workmanship, must be self-motivated, and provide timely and accurate work
  • Communicate with management to establish production and quality control standards, obtain data regarding quantities, specifications, and delivery dates
  • Assure attainment of business objectives and production schedules while ensuring product standards that will exceed our customers’ expectations
  • Perform other functionally related duties as assigned
  • Drive lean initiatives and be the main advocate for a continuous improvement culture
  • Continually improve safety records by addressing both physical safety issues and employee safety attitudes
  • Ensure safety incident reports, investigations, and corrective actions for shift are completed
  • Work in collaboration with teams on improvement projects including capital investments, process improvements, etc.
  • Assume responsibility for costs, methods, operations, quality, sanitation, food safety, and quantity of production

While performing the duties of this job, the team member must be in good physical condition to perform the tasks assigned. The team member must lift, carry or move up to 50 pounds. The team member is required to stand, walk, crouch, climb, bend, twist and reach with both hands and arms. The team member must be able to demonstrate agility of both hands and all fingers to push, pull, grasp, touch and feel. The team member must be able to lift with both hands and lift overhead with both hands. The team member must demonstrate good visual acuity and hand/eye coordination. Must be able to talk/communicate and hear.


Work environment conditions may require/recommended the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to; eye safety glasses, side shields, steel toe or composite toe shoes, hearing protection and hair/beard nets.
