About SparkFun's Next Product Photographer/Graphic Designer

Is it in your nature to capture the perfect product shot and marry that with graphic design skills to bring a creative vision to life? How about doing all that, and more, as an integral part of our Marketing crew at SparkFun Electronics?

This exciting position provides an opportunity to contribute to a dynamic marketing and creative team, bringing together your expertise in both photography and graphic design.

The role primarily involves working at our photography studio at SparkFun headquarters. It involves capturing high-quality images of our extensive product catalog, which our users rely on for their detailed requirements. We anticipate that your skills in graphic design will seamlessly integrate with your photography, creating unique imagery for our digital and print platforms, including our website, social media channels, and digital campaigns.

Essential Job Functions

• Complete photography and/or graphic design work for other departments as well as external partners when needed
• Capture, edit, and deliver “scroll stopping” images to be used in a large variety of marketing materials
• Gain an understanding of the functionality of our line of products and of the marketing strategy behind those products in order to capture accurate product use cases
• Keep an up-to-date organized photo archive
• Skillfully execute photo retouching including color correction, lighting, removing images from backgrounds, super-imposing our product in an environment, removing markings, cloning or retouching portions of your images
• Images needed will include, but are not limited to, our ecommerce website, social media, promotional materials, digital ads, and packaging designs.
• Merge excellent photography skills with appropriate colors, typography and layout to communicate ideas that inspire, inform, and captivate our audience

Requirements

Required Skills and Abilities

• Understand print production requirements. Ensure accuracy of design files and prepare for pre-press
• A creative and skilled eye for composition, lighting, and effects to make our products shine
• Solid knowledge of DSLR cameras, modern lighting equipment, printing processes, keen attention to detail and troubleshooting skills
• Must be very proficient with Adobe Creative Suite and be familiar with file formats and optimizing graphics for both web and print applications
• A strong portfolio of past professional experience in product photography and graphic design in either a freelance or professional role

Bonus skills, although not mandatory, include experience in illustration, motion graphics, web design, 3D design, or new AI design tools.
