Job Summary
Mavalerio USA has an immediate opening for a Plant Quality Specialist, reporting to the Plant Quality Manager this is a critical role located at the Mavalerio location in Ashland, Virginia. This position works with internal and external resources to actively manage product quality using best practice quality management tools and techniques within a continuous improvement environment. This includes quality inspection management, quality incident and corrective action management and the collection, analysis and reporting of quality data. The Quality Specialist tracks activities through monitoring and reporting of Quality Assurance functions to enable Wilton to deliver world class quality products to its customers.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Customer complaint tracking and assistance with investigation
- Assist with corrective and preventive action reports
- Create COAs and email to customers
- Perform moisture, water activity, and density analysis on daily in-process materials (WIP) and finished goods
- Document material on quality status hold and ensure timely disposition
- Allergen testing based on production schedule
- Support Quality, Sanitation, and Production in developing the desired company culture.
- Retrieve, prepare, and send samples to external labs for testing
- Yearly and quarterly environmental sampling
- Communication of quality findings to suppliers and quality team, including disposition decisions and supply data for supplier face to face
- Perform quality control checks to ensure raw materials, in-process materials (WIP), finished goods, all meet quality and food safety criteria
- Create, print, and review product labels based on set standards
- Maintain SDS records for facility
- Assist with conducting monthly internal GMP audits and track improvement processes
- Organize, store, and maintain production records
- Monthly sanitation testing and chemical inventory
- Participates in audits and track improvement processes
Education and Experience:
- B.S. in food science, biology, chemistry or equivalent field of study preferred
- HACCP and SQF Certification a plus
- 3- 5 years related experience or training required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to use standard desktop application including MS Office Suite and basic computer skills
- Strong teamwork / interpersonal skills, and the desire to succeed
- High degree of initiative, accountability, and ability to work with minimal instruction
- Understanding of World Class Quality Management principles and their application with a large consumer product industry
- Experience in the food industry as QC Analyst, Research Assistant or equivalent
Physical Demands/Work Requirements:
- Employee is required to use safety equipment as is appropriate to the work to prevent injury to self or others
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to bend, crawl, sit, talk, move about, hear and speak. May be required to work in restricted spaces and/or under difficult lighting and access conditions
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 70 pounds, and be able to use appropriate support equipment to lift and move greater amounts
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
