Job Description

This position leads all aspects of the overall site management of operations at the Decatur, AL oilseed processing facility. Included are the day-to-day supervision of staff employees, career development of staff, plant costs and budgets, monitoring and ongoing improvement of plant productivity, oversight of plant safety, risk management, interaction with various corporate entities and other functions related to general operations of a Bunge soybean crushing and refining facility.

  • Develop a proficient, efficient and motivated management team while providing adequate opportunity for individual career development.
  • Cultivate a safety culture where unsafe acts are not tolerated and employees and management have a goal of zero injuries.
  • Responsible for the staffing and maintenance of good employee relations in the facility
  • Establish controls and procedures that ensure ongoing compliance and a positive relationship with local, state and federal agencies.

  • Coordinate staff, establish procedures and apply resources to consistently meet or exceed quality standards and customer expectations.
  • Work with the commercial and administrative groups to establish short and long-term operating objectives.
  • Prepare or supervise the preparation of daily and monthly production reports and verify their completeness and accuracy.
  • Ensure that a plant culture focused on safety, efficiency, accountability, and customer awareness exists and is championed at the plant.
  • Develop location long range plans and short-term objectives to meet plant growth and efficiency goals.
  • Responsible for environmental compliance for the facility
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment consistent with regulatory and corporate guidelines.
  • Nurture a plant working environment that encourages employee involvement in the consistent improvement of processes, striving for optimal costs and efficiencies

  • Evaluate operations and take appropriate action to ensure cost objectives and key performance indicator targets are met.
  • Provide for the protection of company assets through sound administrative and operations risk management controls.
  • Prepare and implement plans to improve the productivity and efficiency of the facility’s operations, including development of capital expenditure plans and operating budgets

Skill/Experience Requirements:

  • Strong organizational skills required to constantly keep in touch with various departments of the organization
  • Ability to work self-directed (day to day) with a high level of initiative, priority setting
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field is preferred
  • Selected candidate must be able to work on average 50 hours per week and be available during business-critical situations
  • Ability to work closely with all business functions
  • Shown ability to engage and empower hourly and salary teams
  • Prior experience in a unionized environment is strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, independent thinking, strong organizational and planning abilities and excellent analytical and problem-solving skills are crucial
  • Proficiency in MS Office required, working knowledge of SAP strongly preferred. Strong financial/business acumen is required to be successful in this role as much of the position entails meeting the budget and productivity requirements of the plant.
  • Superior communication skills in dealing with all levels of staff, including hourly workforce and senior management
  • 10+ years proven experience in soybean crushing operations, or related and applicable activities
