Job Summary

Location: Kokomo, Indiana

This position is responsible for overseeing, managing, and directing the day-to-day operations and maintenance activities for the Utility and Energy Assets located within the central utility complex and the manufacturing area at Stellantis’ Indiana Transmission Plant (ITP1).


Assets include (5) Chillers; (5) Low Pressure Air Compressors (90 PSI Centrifugal) with a total capacity of 25,000 CFM; (26) Roof Top Air Handling Units (gas-fired); High Bay Lighting and Electrical Distribution Systems; Wastewater Treatment System capable of processing 100 kgal/discharge of Industrial Waste; and a Cooling Tower that support several of these systems.

Utility systems and powerhouse infrastructure experience is required, particularly in the competitive, non-regulated energy market. Experience supervising unionized labor is important. Work involves performing difficult and complex services requiring a high level of independent judgment, initiative, and discretion. Work is mainly self-directed, with work results reviewed through the achievement of set goals and adherence to policies and procedures.

This position reports to a regionally located General Manager.

Key Accountabilities

  • Ensure that the Company-owned utility assets are operated in a safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible manner while satisfying the utility and energy requirements of the Customer (Stellantis)
  • Supervise and direct the daily activities of all plant personnel, including an hourly, unionized workforce consisting of 4 Operating Engineers, 3 Wastewater Operators and 4 Skilled Tradespersons, all of whom are Stellantis employees
  • Support the development and implementation of all Onsite Energy Business Unit initiatives and best practices
  • Manage site purchasing and inventory control processes
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
  • Understand and adhere to all commercial and contractual obligations
  • Ensure that all financial goals are met
  • Prepare and issue weekly and monthly reports in a timely, consistent manner
  • Develop and maintain a close working relationship with key customer personnel
  • Develop and lead continuous improvement activities
  • Develop and manage annual O&M budget and cost-savings measures
  • Act as the onsite liaison between the Company and the Customer
  • Manage employee time entry and work schedules

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

  • Must possess a valid driver's license with the ability to maintain it.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline with a minimum of 2 year supervisory or managerial experience in the operation, maintenance and administration of powerhouses, utility systems or similar plant assets
  • Associate degree or industry-recognized certificate (i.e., the completion of a core group of course designated by the institution) in a related discipline is preferred and knowledge and capabilities typically acquired through at least 3 years supervisory or managerial experience in in the operation, maintenance and administration of powerhouses, utility systems or similar plant assets, or 2 years of military experience at an officer level, or
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and knowledge and capabilities typically acquired through at least 8 years supervisory or managerial experience in the operation, maintenance and administration of powerhouses, utility systems or similar plant assets, or

Other Qualifications

Preferred:

  • Capable of promoting and maintaining strong, positive relationships with coworkers, suppliers, contractors, vendors, and customers
  • Willingness to share expertise and knowledge with other team members for the benefit of the entire Onsite Energy Business Unit
  • Ability to balance time and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and administer complex commercial agreements related to delivering reliable energy services to the Customer on a 24 hour per day, 7 day per week basis
  • Ability to develop and manage operating and maintenance budgets
  • Working knowledge of powerhouse equipment and systems, including but not limited to Air Compressors, Boilers, Wastewater Treatment Systems, Roof Top AHU’s, Electrical Distribution, Heat Exchangers, Cooling Towers, Transformers, Pumps, Motors, Piping/Valves, Instrumentation, etc.
  • Capable of working alone or as part of a team without a significant level of supervision
  • An understanding of energy efficiency practices and energy conservation techniques
  • An understanding of the operation and maintenance of plant equipment, including the importance of ensuring high availability, reliability, and efficiency
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, etc.)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an ability to communicate effectively at all levels

While performing the duties of this job, the employee works both in a business office setting and at a plant site. In the course of working at the plant site, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions, including wet and/or humid conditions, and may work near moving mechanical parts and/or machinery. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate in the office but may become loud at the plant site.
