Job Description

Who We Are and What We Do:

GNS America was established in 2009. Our core business is in conventional stamping, hot stamping, welding, and assembly. Our tool and die capability offer simulation and full design and build activities.


SUMMARY:

The Plant General Manager will have total operational responsibility and profit and loss responsibility for the Holland Plant. This role includes the following direct reports:


  • Operations Manager
  • Safety Coordinator
  • HR Manager (dotted line report to VP of Human Resources)
  • Engineering Manager (dotted line report to VP of Engineering)
  • Maintenance Manager
  • IT Manager
  • Quality Manager (dotted line report to Director of Quality)
  • Materials Manager (dotted line report to Director of Supply Chain)


The Plant General Manager is responsible for the facility maintaining 0 safety incidents, 100% on-time deliveries, defect-free quality, improved production efficiencies, and flawless launch execution. This will be accomplished through comprehensive resource planning, lean manufacturing techniques, and disciplined production processes. Ensure optimal integration of product and production processes. Create and maintain a work environment consistent with long-term employee satisfaction.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

In each of the duties listed below the position is expected to be the key executive responsible for the facility performing to the highest standards of quality, to strive for maximum customer satisfaction, and to continually look for ways to improve the methods, practices and procedures of the facility. Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in an effective manner with customers, clients, suppliers, and employees. Responsible for the financial performance of the plant.


  • Executes policies and procedures regarding the activities and responsibilities of production which are consistent with company policies and which support the company’s quality objectives and system.
  • Plant Human Capital Management – Key role as the team leader. This area includes key management goal setting and working with the team members in establishing personal development plans.
  • Participates in continuous improvement and assist in its implementation on an ongoing basis.
  • Responsible for planning for plant capacities.
  • Coordinates plant activities through the planning with departmental managers to ensure total manufacturing objectives are accomplished in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Responsible for budget development and attainment.
  • Establishes and monitors overall plant performance for production and quality standards.
  • Responsible for controlling and minimizing labor overtime, premium freight, sorting and repair expenses.
  • Strongly supports plant safety program including safety related investigations.
  • Leads the effort to meet quality objectives as required by customers.
  • Responsible for meeting all applicable OSHA requirements.
  • Responsible for production resource and capacity planning.
  • Incorporates shop floor organization and plant cleanliness among plant personnel.
  • Directs the plant operations team to achieve established targets of excellence in customer satisfaction.
  • Responsible for implementing and leading cost reductions within area of responsibility.
  • Responsible for directing the scheduling of suppliers & plant production to support and achieve the production plans.
  • Responsible for monitoring and achieving department and facility budgets, including requirements for capital expenditures.
  • Coordinates the necessary activities of Operations with Engineering and Program Management to achieve product excellence at the lowest cost in a timely manner through product/process design collaboration.
  • Responsible for the development of lean culture and tools for employees, including hourly employees.
  • Responsible for capital equipment and facilities planning.
  • Responsible for directing overall performance to standard cost.
  • Execute plant strategic objectives.
  • Responsible for income statement and the profit & loss performance of the plant.
  • Provides leadership and training to accomplish the company goals and objectives.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing and training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.


QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business or related field required; minimum of 10 years related experience in production, quality and engineering within a manufacturing environment (preferably in the automotive industry) with budget responsibility; 5 years of experience in a leadership position as a plant manager or general manager of a manufacturing plant with financial management and profit & loss responsibility is required.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Six Sigma Black Belt Lean Champion preferred.


LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public, to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.


COMPUTER SKILLS:

Ability to use a personal computer with knowledge of Microsoft Office applications most notably Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Ability to use main business information system (PLEX experience is preferred), and Internet based services.


REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
