Welcome to Ethan Crossing Addiction Treatment Center. We work with individuals and their support systems to identify factors leading to addiction; equip individuals with the resources needed to address addictive triggers and reconnect individuals with their support system and community. Our Outreach Coordinators, Admissions Counselors, and Intake Team work together to provide a comprehensive onboarding process. From scheduling an admission date to acquainting individuals to the campus, and everything in between, clients are supported by our team of compassionate employees.

The Role Itself

Ethan Crossing is currently seeking a Certified Peer Support Specialist. The Peer Support Specialist role is to support others in recovery from a substance use disorder. The Peer Support Specialist will serve as a role model, mentor, advocate and motivator to recovering individuals in order to help prevent relapse and promote long-term recovery. The Peer Support Specialist must demonstrate an ability to share personal recovery experiences and to develop authentic peer to-peer relationships.


Duties and Functions:


  • Assist/coach clients to develop their own plan for advancing their recovery; for “getting the life they want.”
  • Provide a model for both clients and staff by demonstrating that recovery is
  • Develop, implement, and promote ongoing community training opportunities with clients.
  • Identify barriers (internal and external) to full participation in community resources and developing strategies to overcome those barriers.
  • Support connections to community based, mutual self-help groups. Link clients to appropriate professional resources when needed. Provide vision-driven hope and encouragement for opportunities at varying levels of involvement in community based activities (e.g., work, school, relationships, physical activity, self-directed hobbies, etc.).
  • Maintain reports and records in appropriate files and database(s).
  • Provide recovery education to service recipients for every phase of the recovery journey from pre-recovery engagement, recovery initiation, recovery stabilization, and sustained recovery maintenance.
  • Develop relationships with community groups/agencies in partnership with others in the community.
  • As the Peer Support Specialist position evolves and knowledge increases, visit community resources with clients to assist them in becoming familiar with potential opportunities.
  • Assist clients to identify their personal interests, goals, strengths and weaknesses regarding recovery.
  • Actively identify and support linkages to community resources (communities of recovery, educational, vocational, social, cultural, spiritual resources, mutual self- help groups, professional services, etc.) that support the client’s goals and interests. This will involve a collaborative effort including the client and staff.
  • Recovery Planning -- facilitate (via personal coaching) the transition from a professionally directed service plan to a self-directed Recovery Plan. The goal should be to transition from professionally assisted recovery initiation to personally directed, community supported recovery maintenance.
  • Promote self-advocacy by assisting clients to have their voices fully heard; their needs, goals and objectives established as the focal point of rehabilitation and clinical services.


Job Requirements


Education/Certification


  • 1-2 years experiences working as a Peer Support
  • Active Peer Support certification in the State of Ohio
  • Associate’s Degree in related field preferred
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • CDCA I or II preferred


Other Requirements


  • Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Teamwork, flexibility needed to fulfill job responsibilities, adapting to changes in work environment and accepting supervisory feedback.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Adherence to all relevant policies, procedures, and guidelines affecting the work environment, as well as maintenance of required competencies and communications skills
