Job Description

Cordia Resources is working with a Nonprofit in Rockville, MD to locate a Payroll Staff Accountant with Federal Government Contracts. This is a hybrid role with compensation within the range of $62,000 to $75,000 a year.

Work Schedule: The first 90 days 5 days in the Rockville office. After this time period, 2 days remote and 3 in the office

Things to Consider:

  • Candidates MUST HAVE Experience – Federal Government Contracts, Non-profit
  • Position is open due to growth. There has been a restructuring of the accounting/finance team


Job Summary:

· Prepares and processes payroll through Paycom database on a semi-monthly basis

· Meets with the assigned Human Resources employee to review the payroll for accuracy prior to running each payroll.

· Ensure proper documentation for all changes entered payroll.

· Review reports from Paycom for accuracy and verify against semi-monthly and monthly spreadsheets.

· Work with the other Staff Accountant-Cash to make sure Payroll and Payroll taxes are funded in the payroll account.

· Prepare 401k contributions transfer sheet.

· Prepare monthly payroll reconciliation.

· Submit monthly insurance invoices to COO for approval. Reconcile benefit deductions with the bills, identifying discrepancies and proposing corrective actions.

· Review tax rate schedules, tax filings and any tax notices and correspond with the Paycom Tax Service as necessary.

· Calculate and record a variety of manual and express payroll checks (i.e, overtime, anniversary, special duty payment, bonus, etc.).

· Assist with Workman’s Comp audits, and 401k audits.

· Respond to and process all payroll-related inquiries (including written requests from federal and state agencies, garnishments, etc.) the payroll service bureau and any other requests for information as necessary.

· Maintain the payroll files and payroll data. Ensure that data is secure using appropriate established procedures.

· Prepares and enters journal entries for all cash related to payroll, 401k transfers,

· Employee loan repayments.

· Prepares and enters journal entries required to adjust the financial accounts assigned.

· Supports the outside audit staff with the preparation of schedules and any related work necessary in connection with the year-end audit.

· Support accounts payable staff for month-end close and other related work

· Manage special projects as assigned by accounting manager.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Good organizational, administrative, and human relations skills
  • Working knowledge of tax laws and GAAP.
  • 2+ years of accounting experience.
  • Experience in Paycom is strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.
  • Proficient with accounting software such as Abila
