Job Description

The Payroll Specialist is responsible for processing payroll for employees. This position assists in resolving issues with the time and attendance system. The position is involved in resolution of pre-processing audits and assist in the resolution of post-compute payroll problems. The payroll specialist must maintain accuracy of payroll records and resolve simple to complex customer complaints while maintaining empathy and professionalism. The payroll specialist must maintain the highest standard of confidentiality of information. The position is also responsible for maintenance of benefit accruals and assisting the supervisor or manager with projects as assigned.
The Payroll Specialist participates in the day to day workflow from HR generated processes, to include but not limited to new hires, job changes, compensation changes, leave of absence, job changes and terminations. This position reviews time and attendance and pay corrections submitted by managers throughout the Health System.
The Payroll Specialist will be involved in a team environment with processing payroll for approximately 13,000 employees. Tasks during the processing cycle include both pre-processing and post-processing audits and always looking for best practices and how to enhance the current process.
The position must have a basic understanding of the FLSA provisions. The employee in this position will be a resource to other SLHS employees to assist them in understanding/interpreting pay statements, including but not limited to being able manually calculate hours worked and deductions. The position will also assist employees how to update their payment and tax elections or request time off through self-service.
Preferred
Minimum of 2 years of experience in payroll
Microsoft Office Suite Experience, Including Strong Excel Skills.
Highly organized, detail minded, and able to understand and analyze payroll transactions.
Ability to communicate effectively both oral and written with a customer service approach.
Ability to work within a team environment and possess skills to support process change.
Kronos Timekeeping experience
Workday Payroll experience
Multi-state payroll experience
