Job Description

We are working with a reputable general contractor headquartered in St. Louis to find a skilled Payroll Manager. The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of construction industry, union, and multi-state payroll experience in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

Overall, the Payroll Manager will oversee and take ownership of complex duties within the company’s payroll function, ensuring all employees are paid correctly and all compliance reporting (including tax and union) is completed in a timely manner.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • File timely & accurate payroll tax returns (withholding, unemployment, etc...)
  • Weekly Payroll Processing:
  • Process payroll for approximately 200 union and non-union employees
  • Remit timely & accurate 401k information & payments to outside administrator
  • Process new hires, coordinate pre-hire drug testing, e-verify, background checks, etc.
  • Compile and file all required union reports on a timely & accurate basis
  • Financial Close Involvement:
  • Must quickly gain working knowledge of current jobs and ability to correct timesheets when necessary
  • Monitor accrued vacation reporting and activity
  • Work with Field Employee Coordinator:
  • Coordinate preparation of weekly & monthly certified payroll reports
  • Maintain master files for employees, unions and labor burden tables
  • Remit timely & accurate payroll tax deposits
  • Compile questions & provide data to supervisors to ensure accuracy
  • Assist with Human Resources Admin:
  • Gather daily field employee time, review for accuracy & enter into system
  • Coordinate with Controller on the month-end and year-end close for all payroll related items.
  • Payroll Reporting:
  • Maintain company compliance per stated requirements
  • Maintain records for union stamps and other compliance matters
  • Compile data for weekly direct deposit & coordinate with bank to Generate & distribute payroll checks timely & accurately
  • Coordinate the annual preparation & distribution of W-2’s o Provide data for insurance, union, and tax audits as necessary
  • Remit timely & accurate garnishment payments & related reporting


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Problem-Solving and process improvement skills
  • Working knowledge of Sage 300 CRE (Timberline) system preferable
  • Highly-Motivated with ability to multi-task and work independently
  • Thorough understanding of withholding tax rules for federal and state taxes and the related reporting
  • Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality
  • Openness to very specific training process
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to review and correct own work
  • Intermediate skill level in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word Skill Requirements:
  • Organized and ability to adhere to prescribed procedures
  • Construction company experience required
  • Strong dedication & commitment to timely task completion & flexibility with hours to ensure task completion within established deadlines
  • 3 years’ payroll processing experience
  • Working knowledge of Construction industry in a multi-union environment
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); Associates Degree in Business Administration preferred
