The Role: Patient Scheduling Representative

The Opportunity


MaineGeneral Health is currently seeking a Patient Scheduler to join our team of professionals. The Patient Scheduler is responsible for gathering and verifying patient information including patient demographics and insurance information for scheduled appointments at our facility and physician practices. If you enjoy working in a fast-paced call-center environment and have a desire to help patients, this is your opportunity to be part of a great team.


The Work


  • Communicates with medical and clinical staff to ensure the availability of facilities and staff and intake preauthorization’s at the time of scheduling
  • Intakes demographics, insurance information, and pre-authorizations as necessary for all scheduled encounters
  • Schedules appointment times using computerized scheduling programs
  • Communicates with patients and/or their families, as permissible, to provide necessary pre-procedure instructions and to confirm appointments


You Have


  • Ability to handle a large volume of outgoing and incoming calls
  • Experience with using everyday computer electronic technology tools (e.g., email, data retrieval, voicemail, and internet/intranet) as well as the ability to effectively utilize and enter information in the electronic medical record (EMR)
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred
  • 1+ year working in customer service, preferably in healthcare
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills (effective listening, clear communication, effective customer problem resolution, and a warm demeanor)
