Job Description

General Summary of Position


Position is remote with a full-time, Monday – Friday, 9:30am – 6pm schedule.

MedStar Patient Financial Services currently has an opportunity for an experienced Patient Accounts Specialist to join our team! The selected individual will begin their MedStar Patient Accounting career in our customer service department (call center environment) responding to customer inquiries regarding patient accounts and assisting in resolving issues and concerns. Associate may be cross trained to cover other areas within the Patient Financial Services department.

We are specifically looking for candidates who have experience in medical billing, claim denials, submitting claim appeals, and/or healthcare call center.

About MedStar Patient Financial Services:
MedStar Patient Financial Services operations is responsible for centralized and standardized revenue cycle processes for all 10 MedStar Health hospitals and the MedStar National Rehabilitation Network ancillary locations.



Primary Duties and Responsibilities



Minimum Qualifications
Education

  • Proficient uses of hospital registration and/or billing systems and personal computers as well as Microsoft Excel and Word applications.
  • Ability to type 35 WPM.
  • Requires basic working knowledge of UB04 and Explanation of Benefits (EOB).
  • 1-2 years Experience in patient accounting, accounts receivable or related healthcare field required or
  • Detailed working knowledge and demonstrated proficiency in at least one specific payers application billing and/or collection process.
  • An equivalent combination of experience and college education in accounting, finance or healthcare administration required

  • High School Diploma or GED required

    Experience

    • 1-2 years Experience in patient accounting, accounts receivable or related healthcare field required or
    • An equivalent combination of experience and college education in accounting, finance or healthcare administration required

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Detailed working knowledge and demonstrated proficiency in at least one specific payers application billing and/or collection process.
    • Requires basic working knowledge of UB04 and Explanation of Benefits (EOB).
    • Requires some knowledge of medical terminology and CPT/IDC-9 coding.
    • Excellent communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
    • Proficient uses of hospital registration and/or billing systems and personal computers as well as Microsoft Excel and Word applications.
    • Ability to type 35 WPM.
