The S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications is looking for a part-time online section instructor for ICC 602 Introduction to Digital Communication (3 credits) for the July 2023 session (6/28/23-9/19/23).
Synchronous sessions for this section will be Mondays 9:00-10:45pm EST (7/10-9/18)
Course Description: This introductory course to the MS in Communications Online program will examine the evolving nature of digital communications as it relates to the media. Students will evaluate the use and impact on the creation, dissemination and consumption of news and information. Themes explored in this course are:
  • Practices and problems around inclusivity, diversity, equity, and access in the field of communications
  • Historical contexts of major media industries as they apply to contemporary trends
  • Emphasis on current issues in the media landscape and ways of addressing the vital role of media and democracy.
  • Media convergence
  • Fundamentals of media business and ownership

This position is anticipated to be filled on a fully remote basis. Not all geographical areas within the United States are eligible. Responsibilities
View the asynchronous content in advance of each weekly live session.
Conduct discussions for each week’s live session based on direction from the coordinator of ICC 602. Be available to meet for these discussions on the online platform provided. Follow guidance of coordinator on topics related to the asynchronous material, student questions and progress, assignments and exams, and the introduction of timely topical news and information that may apply to course concepts, relevant case studies and articles.
Additional responsibilities include:
  • Maintain regularly scheduled office hours.
  • Submit completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.
  • Meet all designated class periods.
  • Attend immersion sessions, if invited, when offered.
  • Grade any assignments and exams in a timely manner based on instructions/rubrics provided.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to instruct the class on the online platform on the days it is designated to meet.
  • Ability to hold office hours.
  • Ability to grade all assignments and examinations.
