PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
This individual will be part of FMCNA’s inclusive and collegial Law Department, which is comprised of nearly 60 lawyers and additional professionals working on cutting-edge legal issues across seven practice groups, including Corporate, Integrated Care, Labor and Employment, Litigation, Payor Relations, Regulatory, and Specialty Services, in support of FMCNA’s wide range of businesses.
The Paralegal position supports multiple attorneys, other members of the law department, and business colleagues with substantive and administrative legal needs. Under general supervision, the Paralegal will assist in a variety of law-related activities that do not require a law degree, including: legal and regulatory research; document preparation and review; contract management; coordination and preparation of filings, reports and responses to regulators, business counterparties, internal clients and their respective representatives and outside counsel; as well as maintenance of books and records. The candidate should enjoy writing and contract drafting, as key responsibilities will include preparing initial drafts of standard contracts and utilizing the company’s contract management system. Designation of Paralegal or Senior Paralegal will be based on skillset and years of experience.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supports attorneys in their delivery of legal services including assistance with the preparation of a variety of substantive legal documents and agreements.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Prepares initial drafts of contracts and assists with editing, compiling and maintaining the department's template agreements and agreement databases.
- Escalates issues to supervisor for resolution, as deemed necessary.
- Under general supervision, follows established company policies and procedures and applies acquired job skills to administrative legal needs.
- Assists with the document management database and manages the organization of electronic files.
- Conducts state specific and other research projects upon request.
- Assists with various projects as assigned by direct supervisor.
- Works on assignments that are semi-routine in nature, but recognizes the need for occasional deviation from standard practice.
- Assists with administration of various legal systems, including processing of law department invoices, upon request.
- Refers to senior staff for assistance with higher level problems that may arise.

EDUCATION:
- Bachelors degree required; Paralegal certificate preferred
EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Very strong analytical capabilities
- 2-5+ years' related experience working with a law firm or in-house legal team; title commensurate with skillset and experience
- Self-starter with ability to multi-task
- Dependable and results-oriented
- Experience drafting and reviewing legal documents
- Fluency with Microsoft Office applications including, Excel, Visio, SharePoint, Word, PowerPoint
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to handle confidential information with respect and integrity
- Knowledge of legal documents and document management software
- Solid legal research skills
- Familiarity with Legal Tracker e-billing system, or other e-billing system
- Professional, trustworthy and reliable with strong attention to detail
