Paralegal Jobs

Job Summary: Under the direction of JustCause’s Managing Attorney, the Paralegal will provide support to clients and attorneys in a variety of legal matters. Duties include conducting intake interviews with potential clients via phone, email, and text message; verifying income information; and following up with clients. As needed, this position assists with JustCause on- and off-site clinics, and training other paralegals.

Responsibilities:

● Provide support specifically in landlord/tenant matters; may support other units, as needed

● Answer hotline telephone calls

● Screen and interview clients

● Provide legal information and referrals

● Gather necessary documents and information

● Track the status of cases and referrals

● Timely report data and time in case management system

● Manage interactions with clients, pro bono attorneys, and the courts

Required Qualifications:

● Sufficient working legal knowledge to successfully issue-spot when interviewing clients in assigned legal unit

● Ability to effectively, compassionately, and confidently interview clients from diverse backgrounds who may be in crisis or have endured various forms of trauma

● Writing skills sufficient to draft clear and thorough legal memos and correspondence as per unit requirements

● Attention to detail necessary to document client interactions and maintain up to date files in Salesforce

● Consistent, timely, and accurate record-keeping and reporting of all work time

● A pleasant and professional demeanor and a balanced sense of humor

● Excellent discretion and exercise of independent judgment

● A strong commitment to justice, equity, and community wellness

Preferred Qualifications:

● Certificate of completion from an approved paralegal program

● Two (2) years experience in a legal organization

● Bachelor’s degree

● Bilingual
