Job Description

Summary

The Packaging Lead leads the daily operation of the packaging crew and equipment in a multi-line packaging department. The individual assists in the training of packaging department personnel on equipment operations and other packaging procedures. This person oversees the safety of the employees and the safe operation of the machines in the packaging department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Organizes and supervises packaging personnel and the start up and continuous operation of the packaging equipment on a shift
  • Assists in setting production goals and help packaging department achieve goals
  • Communicates with other departments to ensure a quality product is being delivered to our customer
  • Ensures that packaging personnel is working safely and the safe operation of packaging equipment
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Plans and coordinates the packaging activities with Packaging Department Management

Typical Education

High School diploma or equivalent

Relevant Experience

  • Good knowledge of computer systems including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Preferred two years plus related experience
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently or with minimal supervision and exercise good judgment; ability to lead a group of employees
  • Ability to balance multiple tasks, be flexible and work well under pressure
  • Ability to work in both refrigerated environments and frozen environments
  • Mechanical aptitude

Other Information

  • Must be able to perform basic computer skills (turn computer on, use a mouse, save a document, and open a file or program).
  • Must be able to use up to 50 pounds of push/pull force needed to push/pull barrels weighing up to 450 lbs using a rolling device.
  • Must be able to maneuver in close quarters and climb stairs and ladders.
  • Must be able to read, understand, and communicate in a manner to successfully perform the job duties.
  • Must be able to perform basic math functions (addition, subtraction, multiplication and counting).
  • Must be able to stand on concrete floors for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to work with and around hazardous chemicals wearing appropriate PPE, includes but not limited to, full wetsuit, boots, chemical gloves and face shield or goggles.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs in a safe and proper manner.
  • Must be able to work in extreme environments: hot or cold temperatures and wet and slick floors.
