The Director, Plastics & Packaging Engineering for Beckman Coulter Diagnostics is responsible for qualifying packaging design for new products, developing Plastic Injection Molds (New Capital), managing product End of Life, and global labeling requirements while executing design changes to improve system quality.


This position is part of the Global Integrated Supply Chain organization and may be located in Chaska, MN or Miami, FL. This role is a hybrid role. At Beckman Coulter, our vision is to relentlessly reimagine healthcare, one diagnosis at a time.


You will be a part of the Global Integrated Supply Chain team and report to the Vice President, Global Integrated Supply Chain, responsible for providing direct knowledge and success in execution of world-class global processes, systems, and tools for plastics molding, labeling, and packaging. You’ll demonstrate leadership to give vision, strategy, and direction, as well as drive daily process execution using lean tools.


In this role, you will have the opportunity to:


  • Assess and evaluate Plastics, Packaging and Labelling departments in terms of: (a) structure, resource, teamwork, and skills (both team and individual capability) and (b) global processes and the leverage/maturity of DBS and make recommendations – including cross training / optimization of resources - for change.
  • Key Metrics will be: Capacity, Material productivity / Cost savings, Product Life Cycle measures and, hitting Project Cost, Delivery and Quality targets
  • Create structure, processes, and reporting cadence to develop a global Engineering commodities organization which has standardized design/methods, tools and processes, leverages DBS and shares best practice
  • Develop a strategy and implementation plans for Plastics, Packaging, and Labelling aligned to global operations product manufacturing plans to achieve QDC targets. This will include the following:
  • Understand performance of Plastics and Packaging departments in terms of results/metrics and analysis of available data to help assess gaps and risks for 2022-23 and beyond. Where necessary, recommend new/additional metrics to get at leading indicators and improve visibility and predictability of results.


The essential requirements of the job include:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Science or Engineering with 14+ years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with 12+ years of relevant experience
  • Advanced degree such as an MBA (or Masters/PhD in a related discipline) is preferred
  • 12+ years of product development/engineering experience preferred
  • 4+ yrs of managing people
