Job Description
Overview:
We are seeking a full-time Optical Design Engineer 2 in our Portland, OR location. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and developing moderately complex optics or optical systems.
Responsibilities:
Essential Functions
  • Find technical root cause and suggest corrective action and find reliable solutions for given problems using sound problem-solving techniques
  • Estimate level of effort, evaluate new options of similar technology, offer suggestions to improve processes, and provide comments on some optical design aspects
  • Work with the factory team to understand design impacts on manufacturability
  • May perform as a technical leader or Project Engineer for small projects or sub projects as part of a greater project, following established procedures
  • Collaborate and add value through participation in design reviews, providing comments and suggestions on optical design aspects
  • Design, simulate, source, and analyze appropriate optical components to meet design needs and contribute to technical research on new technologies
  • Align/test optical systems designed by other engineers and document the test results
  • Develop moderately complex optical designs that may be derived from existing products
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability with optical engineering tools (simulation and laboratory)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of design impacts on manufacturability
  • Demonstrated ability with application of design standards and procedures to develop moderately complex optical designs and simulations
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Optical Engineering, Bachelor of Arts in Physics, or related field AND a minimum of 1 year relevant work experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
Desired Qualifications
  • Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
  • Previous work or internship experience with optics or optical system design for consumer or aviation products
