Opinion Editor, Msnbc Digital

MSNBC Digital is hiring an Editor to work with both its opinion and blog teams. You will have a strong grasp on the news of the day and a passion for the many ways politics intersect with culture, climate science, the economy and so much more. You will have a deep understanding of what drives conversations, and which experts are best positioned to write on a wide range of news events and issues. You will have excellent news judgment and understanding of journalistic standards and a track record that proves you can hew to the standards of the NBCU News Group.

**This is a 6-month contract position, on a Tuesday-Saturday schedule. Position is based in New York City or Washington, D.C.**

Responsibilities:

• Work closely with our opinion and blog editors to edit and produce multiple pieces a day
• On occasion, you may write short opinion pieces on topics that align with your interests and expertise
• Write and edit MSNBC live blogs as needed
• This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of 3 days per week.
• Pitch opinion stories on a daily basis for our staff writers, freelance contributors and experts as well as MSNBC on-air talent

Qualifications:

• Must be professional, nimble and successful working across newsroom teams, platforms and with partners
• 3+ years work in a digital newsroom environment, ideally with opinion journalism experience
• Must be a skilled editor with outstanding communication skills
• Must have the desire to work in a creative, demanding, competitive environment
• Must have demonstrated experience with assigning and editing stories
• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent years of relevant working experience

Salary range: $80k - $115k
