Design Challenge

In addition to submitting the online application, resume, and cover letter on https://yjobs.byu.edu/ , please EMAIL the Design Challenge and link to your portfolio to [email protected]. (You may attach previous work samples to your email if you do not have an online portfolio.) Design Challenge and portfolio are due by the closing date of the job posting.

Show us your skills! We have found that giving all applicants the same Design Challenge is the fairest way to see what you know, how you think, and what your design work looks like. Of course, your portfolio still matters, so send a link to your portfolio in the email or attach work samples. We hope that you read and follow the directions and give us a chance to see how you approach User Experience Design.

  • Look at https://www.fs.usda.gov/uwcnf
  • Use your user experience skills to redesign this page.
  • Use Adobe Illustrator and submit the design as an editable PDF file.
  • Make sure any images you include are embedded, not linked. We also recommend that you convert your text to outlines to prevent any custom fonts from loading improperly on other computers.
  • Design only the first screen (1430px wide by 1080px tall). No subsequent screens. No scrolling (it's okay if the design is cut off at the 1080px height and not all the content is displayed).
  • You may use whatever content or images you find on the page or elsewhere on the web. You may choose any font or color for your design.
  • When you are done with your design, please provide an explanation of your UX design journey and choices. You may paste that explanation in the body of the email or attach it as a separate document.
