Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI) is the master planning, creative development, design, engineering, production, project management, and research arm of The Walt Disney Company’s (TWDC) Parks and Resorts business segment. Representing more than 150 disciplines, the talented corps of Imagineers are responsible for the creation of Disney resorts, theme parks and attractions, hotels, water parks, real estate developments, regional entertainment venues, cruise ships and new media technology projects.

The WDI Technology Studio is an embedded product and technology team, looking for a UI/UX Design Manager to both act as a senior designer on a subset of capital investments, in addition to developing design processes and ethos. This is a split role, acting as an individual contributor for delivering design needs for specific products, in addition to developing our design principles. We will be looking at a variety of skills that match the diversity in our design requirements – web, desktop, 3D spatial, simulation, robotics, and human-machine interfaces. Our ideal candidate has expertise in one of these areas, in addition to leading design practices (to include hiring and/or contractor engagement) across all design needs.

The WDI Technology Studio develops and supports software that both powers our attractions and experiences in addition to enabling Imagineers to do what they do best: create. UI/UX design is a new discipline for our product team. Reporting to the head of WDI Apps, this is an outstanding opportunity to play a developing role in how the function of software UI/UX design evolves within Walt Disney Imagineering.

Responsibilities:

• Directly or indirectly manage our internal design system.
• Work across stakeholders to understand goals and needs for user-system interactions.
• Ensure that final product is accessible and user friendly in compliance with industry standards and regulations.
• Lead UI/UX design delivery for new product development in one (or more) of the following key areas: web, desktop, 3D spatial, simulation, robotics and/or human-machine interfaces.
• Hire and develop designer engagement across WDI and with external partners and agencies.
• Identify usability problems and propose innovative design solutions.
• On occasion, perform UI/UX design consultancy outside of Tech Studio.
• Develop overall UI/UX design processes and ethos for WDI Tech Studio, acting as the resident design expert.
• Lead, coach, and mentor UX Design team members, and others supporting WDI design work. May or may not have direct reports.

Qualifications

• Expert user of applicable UI/UX design software.
• Strong UI/UX product design experience in one (or more) of the following key areas: web, desktop, 3D spatial, simulation, robotics and/or human-machine interfaces.
• Has experience in developing, documenting and socializing best product design practices.
• Passion for enterprise products that empower and enable creativity and agility.
• Has experience in leading a small team (under 5) and/or leading partner/agency design engagement.
• 10 years of relevant work experience.
• Passion for embodying the ethos of Product Design in support of themed entertainment.

The hiring range for this position in California is $149,240.00-$200,200.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
