BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
Responsible for supporting the start-up and growth of a newly formed US Ocean Cargo unit focused on writing Ocean Marine in the US. This role will work closely with the underwriting manager to create processes and workflow that will support a growing team of underwriters. This is a newly created role on a new team.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Work closely with underwriters to receive submissions and service brokers to grow the business unit.
  • Extensive product knowledge. Understanding of key endorsements for each product. Can identify when an endorsement appears to be missing.
  • Prepares renewal reviews- updates data and underwriting documentation. Participates in some management renewal review meetings.
  • Collaborates with claims adjusters, gathering information on specific claims for review with underwriter.
  • Key competencies- Analytical, Self-Directed. Owns issues. Exceptional Customer Service
  • Rating/pricing, quoting and issuing policies
  • Assists with training and mentoring more junior level members of the team
  • Deep relationship with underwriter. Considered an extension of underwriter. Has the ability to work independently to thoroughly prepare quotes and materials for underwriter review (or under UA authority).
  • Managing multi-state, multi-line accounts throughout the lifecycle in support of the underwriter.
  • Able to articulate the Line of Business’ strategy and influence broker adoptions of changes
  • Builds strong relationship with brokers. Works collaboratively to respond quickly to any request
  • Assigned special projects (i.e. UAT) that require analytical skills by the UC or Team Lead
  • Understanding of Underwriting key guidelines for each product. Able to identify when an important guideline is not in compliance, escalates for discussion with underwriter and manager
Competencies, qualifications, and skills:
  • College graduate preferred and/or seven to ten years prior experience within the insurance market
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven prioritization and time management skills with accurate results
  • A proven proactive approach to growing personal knowledge and skillset while supporting and improving the business through accurate and timely working habits
  • Proven analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Solid technical skills with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word required) as well as other BTS systems
  • Client service centricity and focus
  • Ability to work effectively in a team setting as well as to work independently in a fast-paced environment requiring good judgment
  • Strong demonstration of initiative, interpersonal skills and a professional demeanor are critical

For this position, we currently expect to offer a base salary in the range of 90-120k The specific salary offer will be based on an assessment of a variety of factors including the experience of the successful candidate and their work location.
