Job Summary


This position will report to the Department/Division Chair and is responsible for providing strategic and operational planning initiatives supporting Nursing Student Success. This individual is responsible for collaborating with faculty to identify, implement, and evaluate the success pathway of students in the nursing program. The person in this role is responsible for working closely with students to complete the success pathway as they progress through the nursing program.

Communication and collaboration include students, faculty, administrators, and other campus departments whose mission is focused on student success.This position also requires theoretical and clinical knowledge of nursing as this person also provides clinical laboratory, and simulation instruction to nursing students from diverse backgrounds.


This position has an anticipated start date is 5/1/23.


Essential Functions

  • Supervises and facilitates student learning for a diverse population of students in simulation, laboratory, and settings.
  • Training faculty to recognize concerns and improve student success outcomes.
  • Maintains office hours; serves on and participates in department, college, and district-wide committees and activities.
  • Communicating and collaborating with success and retention committees across Maricopa (4DX, etc).
  • Facilitating the development of student remediation programs.
  • Working closely to assist and train faculty about meeting students’ needs for success.
  • Working closely with faculty to identify students at-risk, communicate student compliance, and measureoutcomes.
  • Initiating and completing of the Individualized Student Success Pathway (ISSP) in collaboration with the student to meet goals and outcomes.
  • Communicating with students regularly, serving as a support system.
  • Maintains and enhances knowledge of the subject matter taught and individual training skills required to remain current with new trends and developments in nursing through attendance at conferences, seminars, and/or workshops.
  • Referrals to student support services/specialists as indicated, including tutoring, Counseling, DRS, etc.
  • Offering student success workshops to develops skills and knowledge for student success.

Minimum Qualifications


1. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree plus 3 years of experience as a professional nurse providing direct patient care, or a BSN and a graduate degree and 2 years experience as a professional nurse providing direct patient care, or a graduate degree in nursing and 2 years of experience as a professional nurse providing direct patient care.

2. Must hold an Arizona registered nurse license in good standing or multi-state privilege to practice in Arizona by the first day of employment.

3. Must be able to meet health and safety requirements including CPR certification, Fingerprint Clearance Card, and drug testing.

4. Must complete EDU 250 – Teaching and Learning in the Community College or equivalent within two years of date of hire.


Desired Qualifications


  • A Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree.
  • Three or more years as a registered nurse providing direct patient care.
  • One or more years as nursing faculty working directly with students in lab, simulation, clinical or theory.
  • One or more years of experience working with student success initiatives.
  • One or more years of experience with simulation technology (e.g. Laerdal, Gaumard, and CAE manikins)

  • May be required to work multiple evenings and weekends

  • Possession of a valid Level I DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card required
  • May be required to instruct at multiple GWCC campuses

  • Assignment may extend past the normal academic semesters
  • Possible exposure to blood-borne pathogens and other infectious diseases
