Job Description
Summary:
Are you looking for the opportunity to help shape the future of primary care while leading an organization that prepares motivated students for careers as medical assistants? The National Institute for Medical Assistant Advancement (NIMAA) is a Denver, CO-based, nationally accredited, not for profit post-secondary vocational program that trains Medical Assistants (MAs) to effectively participate in high-functioning, team-based primary care settings. In May 2023, we celebrate the graduation of the 10th class from our program.
NIMAA, established in 2016 and an affiliate of the Moses Weitzman Health System, is looking for an Executive Director to lead its innovative combination of online and hands-on learning, through a model that is both effective and affordable. As a Title IV designated organization, NIMAA graduates are recognized as premier medical assistants who have been trained to the highest standards and are ready to assume positions on primary care teams in any setting, but particularly in the settings of organizations focused on vulnerable and special populations.

NIMAA’s key objectives include:
  • Improving the delivery of healthcare to underserved populations by strengthening primary care and the teams that deliver it.
  • Strengthening team-based primary care through the addition of medical assistants with the knowledge, clinical skills, and critical thinking to participate fully in patient-centered, population health-focused care for individuals and families; and
  • Creating opportunities for a diverse student population to enter the healthcare field in a manner that positions them for future career advancement
NIMAA accomplishes these objectives through:
  • Online didactic education that develops team-based practice and critical thinking skills.
  • Its unique approach to education, training, and ongoing development of healthcare professionals.
  • Building long-term relationships with organizations to host practice-based externships high-performing primary care practices identified by NIMAA as “externship organizations”.
  • Sustaining these externship relationships through mentoring, preceptor training, and practice consultation to ensure the NIMAA students receive appropriate training, education, and support.
As Executive Director You Will:
  • Recruit, lead, and inspire a diverse staff that is highly engaged, effective, and consistent in advancing the goals and objectives of NIMAA.
  • Promote NIMAA by establishing collaborative and business relationships with high performing health care organizations nationally to serve as a basis for the clinical practicum component of the NIMAA education model, and support those practices in becoming successful externship partners.
  • Act as a visible ambassador for the NIMAA mission to engage community leaders and social entrepreneurs with a focus on the dual mission of social justice and healthcare access.
  • Ensure adherence to legal guidelines and in-house policies to maintain the highest ethics and compliance with all applicable federal and state laws and regulations, Federal Student Aid Program compliance and maintaining national accreditation.
  • Lead development of grant applications and fundraising from private and public foundations and others.
  • Work closely with NIMAA and MWHS leadership to ensure financial, operational, quality and growth targets are consistently met.
  • In collaboration with the Board of Directors, MWHS and NIMAA leadership, define strategic and operational priorities and objectives to further the mission of NIMAA.
  • Drive the strategic, financial, and operational development of NIMAA with the objective of continuing to scale it nationally, making it financial viable, and ensuring NIMAA’s reputation as best in class.
  • Create the culture, reputation, and standards for the organization, as well as explore the potential to expand into similar entry level healthcare professional programs.
  • With NIMAA leadership, staff and partners, continue to develop and deliver innovative and highly effective online and hand-on training to prepare students for the rigors of patient care and associated administration.
  • Advocate for regional, state and/or national legislation and initiatives to further the mission of entry level healthcare professions training
  • Stay abreast of national and state workforce, vocational education and health professions opportunities and trends
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and foster strong relationships across systems of care and with relevant community stakeholders
  • Prior experience in online education
  • Experience in developing profitable and successful strategies and implementing a vision
  • Analytical abilities and problem-solving skills
  • Minimum 10 years overall experience in a relevant organization required; with at least 5 years in a leadership role preferred
  • Experience in building, developing and engaging teams
  • A commitment to justice, diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Excellent written communication and public speaking skills
  • Expertise in healthcare training (preferably as a Medical Assistant), innovation, delivery and/or financing
Education:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent required
  • Advanced degree in relevant field preferred
  • Additional studies in health or health education a plus
Supervision:
  • Reports directly to the CEO of MWHS and Board of Directors of NIMAA.
Other Duties:
  • Collaborate with MWHS leaders and team members toward achievement of shared goals.
  • Understand and manage through the issues and concerns of externship organizations and others key stakeholders that affect NIMAA’s success.
