LOCATION: University Hospital

SALARY RANGE: $19.15 - $30.23/hr (eligible for evening, night, and weekend shift differentials)

BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY

The Neurodiagnostic Technician will learn the basic procedures and techniques necessary to function as a Neurodiagnostic Technician in the Neurodiagnostic Department. Perform routine testing procedures, including technical work for one or more of the following procedures: standard and specialized EEGs, epilepsy monitoring, sleep studies, nerve conduction and evoked potential procedures, and other physiologic phenomena. Administer technical procedures through appropriate techniques and instrumentation. The Neurodiagnostic Technician will work under the close supervision of a physician medical director and a Registered Neurodiagnostic Technologist.

This is an entry position with a neurodiagnostic foundation and may include a career ladder and growth opportunities to learn advanced skills in neurodiagnostic procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Explain test procedures to patients prior to the studies and provide for psychological needs while in the laboratory to obtain quality test results. Differentiate the quality of procedure and patient cooperation for interpretive analysis.

Perform scoring and long-term monitoring review.

Communicate the patient's psychological status and environmental conditions during the procedure to the physician for consideration in interpreting test results.

Adapt test methods and instrumentation to obtain optimal patient results.

Clean, calibrate, and process neurophysiology equipment. Report equipment and supply needs to leadership.

Recognize medically emergent situations and take appropriate actions.

Complete necessary documentation and billing.

Perform limited office, secretarial, and patient transport duties.

Meet all Patient Family Centered Care standards and patient experience goals.

May complete unit/department specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met with or without reasonable accommodation. The performance of these physical demands is an essential function of the job. This position is very active and requires ambulating, reaching, and moving objects weighing up to and over 20 lbs.

This role also routinely comes into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. This position is in a health care facility open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Rotating shifts as well as holiday and work during inclement weather will be required.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired.

One (1) year of basic neurodiagnostic testing experience or completion of a neuro program.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from an accredited neurodiagnostic program.

Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.
