The Problems You’ll Solve:

· The smooth and secure operation of the Mayor’s Office computer networks. The Network Administrator plays a vital role in maintaining network uptime, optimizing performance, safeguarding data, and providing technical support to ensure that the network infrastructure meets the needs of the organization and its users.

· Managing the organization's telecommunication systems, providing user support, optimizing network performance, ensuring security, and controlling telecommunication expenses. Plays a vital role in maintaining reliable communication channels within the organization and supporting effective collaboration among employees.

· Network Setup and Configuration: Responsible for setting up and configuring network devices such as routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points. Establishes network connections, define IP addressing schemes, and ensure proper network segmentation.

· Network Monitoring and Troubleshooting: Monitors network performance and troubleshoot issues as they arise. Uses network monitoring tools to identify bottlenecks, analyze traffic patterns, and resolve connectivity or performance problems.

· Network Security: Plays a crucial role in ensuring the security of the organization's network. Implements and maintains security measures such as firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and virtual private networks (VPNs) to protect against unauthorized access, data breaches, and other cybersecurity threats.

· Network Maintenance and Upgrades: Network administrators perform routine maintenance tasks such as applying software patches, firmware updates, and security fixes to network devices. Also plan and execute network upgrades to accommodate growth, improve performance, and adopt new technologies.

· Network Documentation: Maintains accurate documentation of the network infrastructure, including network diagrams, configurations, and equipment inventory. This documentation helps in troubleshooting, planning for upgrades, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.

· Network Performance Optimization: Continuously analyzes network performance metrics to identify areas for optimization. Implements Quality of Service (QoS) policies, bandwidth management techniques, or network traffic shaping to ensure optimal network performance for critical applications and services.

· Disaster Recovery and Backup: Develop and implement strategies for data backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity in case of network failures or emergencies. Establishes backup schedules, implement redundant systems, and plan for rapid network restoration.

· Telecommunication System Management: Oversee and manage the organization's telecommunication systems, which can include phone systems, video conferencing systems, voice-over-IP (VoIP) systems, and other communication tools. Handles the configuration, administration, and maintenance of these systems.

· Telecommunication Network Administration: Manages the organization's telecommunication network infrastructure, including the physical connections, cabling, and network devices such as switches and routers. Ensures proper connectivity and perform regular maintenance tasks to optimize network performance.

· Voicemail and Call Management: Handles the setup, configuration, and management of voicemail systems. Assists with setting up voicemail boxes, configuring greetings, and managing call routing and forwarding features.

· Telecommunication Expense Management: Responsible for managing telecommunication expenses, including analyzing and optimizing telecom service contracts, monitoring usage patterns, and identifying cost-saving opportunities. May also handle vendor management and negotiations.

· Telecommunication Security: Implement and maintain security measures for telecommunication systems. This includes securing VoIP systems from unauthorized access, implementing encryption for sensitive communications, and monitoring for potential security threats or vulnerabilities.

About You:

· CCNA+, a minimum of 3 years of networking experience and 5 years of systems experience.

· Experience in Network design, networking, communications, experience managing network switches and routers, IPV4, IPV6 and firewalls, 4 + years’ experience in the field.

· Practical knowledge of protocols such as: IPv6, ARP, DNS, DHCP, HTTP, SSH, SNMP, EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, HSRP

· Cisco switches, routers, firewalls installation/configuration. Cisco Prime Infrastructure, Meraki.

· Server Virtualization

· Assertive with strong analytical skills, and problem solver

· Good written and oral communication skills

· Experience working directly with Cisco switches, routers, firewalls.

· Ability to lift 30+Lb.

Salary

The City of New York Office of the Mayor’s compensation package includes a market competitive salary, equity for all full-time roles and exceptional benefits. Our cash compensation range for this role is $100,000 - $110,000. Final offers may vary from the amount listed based on candidate experience and expertise, and other factors.
