The MNIT DHS team supports complex and varied technical needs, including systems that provide health care coverage, deliver child protection and welfare services, and provide support for Minnesotans with special needs including mental illness, chemical dependencies, and physical or developmental disabilities.
Job Summary
As a Principal Information Security Engineer, you will be responsible for Information Security programs and strategies for MNsure, Minnesota's health insurance marketplace. You will analyze operations and security requirements to design and manage security solutions with a focus on software as a service and vendor risk management
This position is currently eligible for full-time telework:
- Telework for Minnesota IT Services allows an employee to perform work from a telework location and an employee may be required to be in the office based on business needs and other dependencies.
- Candidates residing outside of Minnesota and bordering states (Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, or Wisconsin) require additional review prior to telework approval upon becoming a finalist.
- Candidates located in Minnesota, or a bordering state, do not require additional review.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must clearly demonstrate all of the following qualifications in their resume:
Position requires a minimum of five (5) years of information security engineering that demonstrates:
- Experience with operating systems such as Unix, Linux, Windows and with related operating system administrative tools
- Experience applying information security technologies, including firewall, intrusion detection, vulnerability management, encryption, computer forensics, certificate authority, web, and/or security related application development
- Understanding of regulatory requirements that have a direct relationship to information security (e.g., NIST, IRS 1075, HIPAA, PCI, MARSE, etc.)
A Master’s degree in Information Security and Assurance, Computer Forensics or a related Information Security field substitutes for three (3) years of experience, or a related Bachelor’s degree substitutes for two (2) years of experience, or a related Associate’s degree substitutes for one (1) year of experience.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with vendor security risk management
- Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or the ability to certify within one (1) year of hire
- Experience implementing security frameworks and systems security plan development
- Other technologies and certifications: CISA, CISM, Security+ or other relevant information security certification
- Experience with Product teams or agile methodologies
- Application security assessment and secure coding experience
- Ability to communicate complex security requirements and solutions to both technical and non-technical internal and external customers, information systems professionals within MNIT Services, vendors, and other governmental agencies
