The Albert C. Wiltshire Employment Center recruits qualified candidates for positions within the Brooklyn Navy Yard, a 300-acre industrial park housing over 400+ businesses within the manufacturing, food, media, technology, and creative fields.

A Brooklyn Navy Yard-based premier design and fabrication studio is seeking a full-time permanent Metal Fabricator to receive, review, and build from technical drawings and also establish task priorities according to the production schedule and department goals.

This will be an integral role in fabricating unique and specialty items, working closely with our project management and technical design teams to understand and accurately execute designs. The candidate collaborates with other department members to safely and efficiently complete the scope of work assigned to them and is always solution-oriented and knows how to communicate and troubleshoot any unforeseen situations in the Production process.

Responsibilities:

• Forecasts and communicates completion timelines of build elements for a given project(s).
• Proficient in TIG and MIG welding on ferrous and non-ferrous metals
• Receives, reviews and builds from technical drawings & reports back to the Lead Welder and/or Department Manager with questions, comments, concerns
• Ability to read and interpret architectural, engineering, and shop drawings and accurately produce items accordingly
• Consults with Metal Department Manager, Lead Welder, and/or Draftsperson on engineering and best fabrication practices
• Exhibits strong knowledge of hardware and architectural and structural building methods
• Exhibits strong material knowledge in Metal tubing, pipes, rods, and sheet goods
• Ensures the product is up to Bednark standards before passing off to the next step in the production
• Proficient in bending, rolling, milling and cutting all metals
• Demonstrates keen attention to detail and thoroughness

Requirements:

• Proficient in bending, rolling, milling and cutting all metals
• Ability to read and interpret architectural, engineering, and shop drawings and accurately produce items accordingly
• 3+ years experience in high-end custom metal fabrication, finishing, and installation; experience with art fabrication preferred
• Proficient in TIG and MIG welding on ferrous and non-ferrous metals
• Exhibits strong knowledge of hardware and architectural and structural building methods
• Demonstrates keen attention to detail and thoroughness
• Able to fabricate products at a quick rate, without compromising quality and structure.
• Strong problem-solving skills

Pay: $28.00 per hour
