A Merchandising Manager position is available courtesy of the Kroger Company in Portland, OR! The Merchandising Manager will oversee the Garden, Home Improvement, Automotive & Storage departments.
Merchandising Manager Position Summary:
Responsible for setting and executing overall merchandising, marketing, assortment and vendor strategy for a GM department or sub-departments. Develops annual sub-department budget for each division; accountable for meeting sales and profit goals. Role model and demonstrate the company's core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion and safety of others.
Merchandising Manager Essential Job Functions:
- Monitors retail pricing guidelines for all items in alignment with Corporate objectives and strategy.
- Conducts store tours across the enterprise.
- Works with Planners and/or DMM Planning on annual budgets for department sales and profit for each division.
- Collaborate with Product Development and Corporate Brands teams on private label items.
- Maintains a high level of awareness and evaluates the effectiveness of current industry trends for merchandise and merchandise presentation.
- Develops and maintains strategic partnerships with vendors, and participate in vendor business reviews to evaluate past negotiations and terms in order to maximize sales and profit.
- Develops and ensures implementation of weekly, quarterly, and annual ad and sales promotion plans; reviews advertising content.
- Reviews profit and loss statements every period and submits report on period results to management; develops other recaps as needed.
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ensure standardization of buying processes with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Directs and coordinates the activities of buyers; ensures deadlines are met.
- Directs and approves selection of assortment; supervises overall fashion procurement.
- Hires, trains, develops and supervises team members; completes performance reviews and provides feedback to direct reports.
- Accountable for achieving period and annual budgets for department sales and profit; develops strategic plans , including regional plans as needed, that focus on achieving financial goals set for the company and each division.
- Develops and ensures implementation of display plans; reviews schematics and product selection.
- If applicable, supervise and coach direct reports in the performance of their duties; complete performance reviews and provides feedback to direct reports.
- Supports and ensures implementation of strategic growth and corporate initiatives, including eCommerce.
- Maintains awareness of competitive landscape across the Enterprise.
- Ensures merchandising bulletins are developed and distributed on a timely basis.
- Participates in Corporate meetings with Divisions.
Merchandising Manager Minimum Position Qualifications:
- Ability to organize/prioritize tasks/projects
- Ability to pass drug test
- Familiarity with industry/technical terms and processes
- BA/BS in business or related field plus six-ten years merchandise/operations manager experience; or combination of relevant education and experience.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Report Management and Distribution System (RMDS), Dallas
- Ability to travel independently on a regular basis
- Familiarity with merchandising techniques
- Ability to work weekends on a regular basis
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Minimum 18 years of age
- Accuracy/attention to detail
Merchandising Manager Desired Previous Job Experience:
- Experience directing/participating on project teams
- Familiarity with commodity markets
Education Level: Bachelor's Desired Required Travel: Up to 25%
