Job Overview


The Senior Medical Assistant (MASr) and Medical Assistant (MA) provides clinical support to patients and assists care providers with clinical and administrative support.

Additional Information


Department: Dermatology Clinic
Hours per week: 36, eligible for benefits
Shift: 5 days per week - four 8 hour shifts and one four hour shift.

Qualifications

  • EXPERIENCE – One year in a direct health care role required for MASr. Candidates with less than one year of experience will be considered for MA role.
  • CERTIFICATION(S) - BLS for Healthcare Providers / CPR and certification as a Certified Medical Assistant, Registered Medical Assistant, National Certified Medical Assistant, Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant, or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant.
  • EDUCATION – High school diploma or equivalent and graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.

  • Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping patient care information confidential.
  • Participates in hospital committees as directed by leadership.
  • Independently initiates referrals and insurance pre-authorizations.
  • Serves as a mentor, expert in clinical area/skill, a safety coach/specialist, and continuously assists in reviewing and assessing peers” skill set.
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following, and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
  • Completes daily, weekly and monthly monitoring of reports and compliance. E.g. daily charge report, compliance with logs and checks, and etc.
  • Prepares patients for the health care visit by directing and/or accompanying them to the examining room; providing examination gowns and drapes; arranging examining room instruments, supplies, and equipment. Conducts quality checks.
  • Provides phlebotomy and advanced specimen processing (i.e., centrifuge, Meditech) when indicated.
  • Performs and supports patient reception including performing check-in and check–out, registration, scheduling and coordinating patient follow up visits.
  • Creates moderately complex patient correspondence (i.e completes medication administration permission forms, refill request routing, etc.). Participates in Electronic Medical Record (EMR) medication management. May need to synthesize or compile data from multiple areas of medical record to complete forms.
  • Anticipates and leads in balancing workloads and MA assignments and maintaining patient/clinic flow by coordinating with providers and clinic team.
  • Adheres to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and The Joint Commission standards.
  • Cross trains to multiple specialties/sub-specialties for front and back office (where applicable).
  • Supports patient care delivery by assisting health care providers during examinations; preparing laboratory specimens; performing basic testing; disposing of contaminated supplies; cleaning or preparing for sterilization of medical instruments; administering medications per policy and procedures; telephoning prescriptions to pharmacies and other duties within scope.
  • Ensures supplies are ready by monitoring inventory, stocking work areas, placing orders and verifying receipt.
  • Prepares and completes medical record for visit by recording patient information, treatment, and test results. Assists with patient “MyChart” enrollment.
  • Serves as the preceptor for new staff including orientation, education, skill validation, tracking, assessment and monitoring progress.
  • Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; reviewing and/or recording medical history; taking vital signs; confirming purpose of visit or treatment. Reports areas of concern to next care provider.
  • Participates in the standardized education of patients through written instructions and answering questions as directed by provider.
  • Completes lab test follow up and medical record documentation.
  • Provides general office support including phone and fax management.

SCOPE AND LEVEL

Salary Information

Annual Salary Range (Based on 40 hours worked per week): $37,611.26 to $56,416.89
Hourly Salary Range: $18.08 to $27.12
