SUMMARY OF OPPORTUNITY: We are looking for a Medical Assistant who will positively impact student success by providing support aimed at helping students attain an optimum level of physical, social, and emotional health. Our Medical Assistant, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, plays a key role in ensuring that students receive equitable access to school-based health services, providing a safe school environment for students with medical needs. In order to coordinate a comprehensive student health program, the Medical Assistant works in close conjunction with other IPS staff. WHAT YOU'LL DO: The following outlines what your core duties and responsibilities will be for this position and provides a sample overview of what your day-to-day may look like. Core Duties and Responsibilities Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse:


  • Racial equity mindset and other critical indicators related to DEI
  • Transfer students in and out of wheelchairs
  • Ability to execute meetings, calls, and emails with professionalism, courtesy, and accuracy / Ability to effectively allocate and prioritize time to several tasks to ensure completion of all EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
  • Work closely with the school nurse
  • CPR Certification
  • Track record of developing and maintaining strong working relationships with and among a diverse group of actors. Ability to work well independently as well as collaboratively.
  • Proactive nature; able to anticipate conflicts before they rise, results/action-orientation; project management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong strategic analytical and writing capabilities, and interpersonal savvy
  • Complete incident report when necessary.
  • Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) including toileting, diapering, feeding for students with cognitive and physical disabilities. Support other students in Life Skills classroom or school clinic when assigned student is absent.
  • Unquestionable personal code of ethics, integrity, diversity and trust
  • Monitor and maintain up-to-date and accurate health records, including immunization records and medical alerts, in SchoolCare, electronic health record system, and/or PowerSchool when applicable as required by law, board policy, and administrative guidelines. Adhere to all regulations and policies regarding confidentiality of health records and information.
  • Pass out medication
  • Work collaboratively with other staff WHAT YOU'll BRING: SKILLS AND MINDSETS As an ideal candidate for this role, you will be able to achieve the following:
  • Administer medication according to IPS policy and procedure.
  • Designation as a Certified Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant, or Certified Qualified Medication Aide from an accredited program

  • Provide support for ADLs
  • Provide 1:1 support for a student with a medical or physical need.
  • Close attention to detail coupled with the ability to exercise good judgment
  • Assist with Life Skills students
  • Organizational agility; developed negotiation skills
  • Ability to successfully navigate within varying degrees of ambiguity in a fast-paced environment. Ability to be creative in developing alternatives to meet IPS Instructional needs
  • Clean and sterilize work area and supplies between students. Inventories and requests order for medical supplies and materials as needed.
  • Perform procedures as ordered by a physician/provider. Render first aid for students when necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned "Day In the Life" Overview On a regular day, as the medical assistant, you might:
  • Support student medical needs inside a classroom setting
  • Communicate regularly with School Nurse and school staff regarding health interventions, needs, and concerns of students.
