Mechanical Design Engineer, Drive Systems

What To Expect
Tesla is in need of mechanical engineers to tend to daily needs of production and supply chain to maintain a supply of quality parts to drive unit lines. New Vendors and ongoing production shortages require some part redesign and validation activities in a timely or forward looking manner.
What You’ll Do

• Carry designs through to high-volume production; DFM, cost reductions, and second sourcing
• Manage 3D CAD and 2D drawings in both CAD and PLM software Identifying and tending to potential and actual part shortages or quality issues
• Mentoring junior engineers and interns
• Utilize understanding of materials and manufacturing processes to collaborate with various suppliers and other internal team members.
• Collaborate with manufacturing engineers and various suppliers to transition concepts to production
• Design validation and durability testing for new designs and vendors Profile development and data analysis for drive unit and component testing

What You’ll Bring

• Bonus skills: Catia, NVH analysis, Machine design, specification writing, plastic injection molding, bolted joint design
• Understand PFMEA concepts and implementation
• Statistical process control and methods
• Expected skills: GD&T, 3D CAD, 2D Drawings, DFMEA, PFMEA, structural and thermal FEA
• Vendor relations experience
• Use CAD modeling techniques and CATIA v5 to design and develop electric drive systems and mechanical components for testing and manufacturing.
• Evidence of exceptional ability as a problem solved
