Job Description

Sutton Engineer has an excellent opportunity for a Mechanical Project Engineer to join our team. This role will be the mechanical engineer leading and completing projects from the conceptual phase through design completion. Project designs will range for alterations, new projects, and redevelopments. This role requires a mechanical engineer or designer with diverse system and building experience that has a passion for the industry and is the ability to mentor while designing.


Responsibilities

  • Coordinates design with other internal and external disciplines such as architectural, structural, electrical, and equipment suppliers.
  • Selects, schedules, and specifies equipment based on project needs and available technologies.
  • Provides mentorship for the other designers/engineers in the team.
  • Travels to project site and meetings as needed.
  • Prepares heating and cooling load calculations.
  • Interacts with vendors, regulatory agencies, and contractors.
  • Researches design options and document findings.
  • Recognizes potential project problems quickly and seek advice from the Project Manager and Director.
  • Participates in project and client meetings when requested.
  • Takes responsible charge for the project for his/her discipline.
  • Conducts periodic job site observations and develops reports of findings.
  • Reviews all project documents for accuracy and completeness prior to requesting a final check.
  • Consults on areas such as preparation of existing facility diligence, sustainability analyses, and feasibility reports.
  • Acts as Project Engineer on projects and is able to perform complete mechanical systems design according to code.
  • Produces drawings consistent with client requirements and standards.
  • Prepares and issue addendum information.
  • Designs ductwork and piping systems with minimal direction from Director.

Skills And Experiences

  • Competency of the technical aspects of one’s discipline.
  • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office programs, CAD software and BIM.
  • Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups.
  • Ability to think ahead - determining what information will be needed and when.
  • A demonstrated aptitude for managing project workload.

Qualifications

  • Experience with building systems design (HVAC, hydronic, etc.).
  • Experience executing work in 3D model environments.
  • Expert familiarity with industry codes and standards (ICC, ASHRAE, NFAA, etc.).
  • Strong experience with engineering software packages: Trace 3D, Revit, CAD, etc. .
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred.
  • Expert experience with specifying mechanical equipment (e.g. rotating and static equipment) and piping material specifications.
  • Professional Engineering license is a plus.
  • Experience working in collaborative model environments (e.g. Navisworks, BIM 360)
  • Detailed knowledge of equipment from various manufacturers and the ability to make proper selections independently.
  • A minimum of five years of qualifying experience.
