Education and Experience: A High School diploma or GED or higher, and five (5) years’ experience in requisitioning, store keeping and inventory control.

Licenses and Certificates: Some positions may require a Texas Class “C” Driver’s License or equivalent from another state.

Under direction, manage, maintain and control inventory, prepare purchase requisitions, contracts and bids, and supervise section clerical and warehouse staff.

Maintain and manage warehouses, the storage of items and oversee inventory operations. Involves: Evaluate supply and inventory procedures, and design and use of departmental storage facilities. Analyze available buildings, structures, cages, yards and loading dock capacities and accessibility. Accountable for all stores items in various locations. Manage store warehouses and make sure warehouses have adequate supply and storage of material. Store uniforms and other items. Update warehouse manuals. Manage and oversee inventory operations. Maintain adequate supplies inventory for proper operation of construction and maintenance divisions, and for the field water distribution and wastewater collection system utility services. Ensure compliance with invoices and specifications. Track parts issued to mechanics. Monitor warranty programs for parts. Perform failure analysis of spare parts and components, and ensure that substandard materials/parts are returned and that department’s accounts are credited.

Manage the procurement of warehouse inventory items, contracts, bids, and associated budget. Involves: Procurement of materials as needed for the operation of the department. Communicate with vendors to obtain quotes. Prepare purchase requisitions for material and supplies. Enter data regarding requisitions, inventory and reordering. Meet with others to secure purchases. Assist in contract and bid processes. Identify inventory items to enter on contracts and create specifications. Recommend materials/supply and parts sources. Prepare specifications for bid, and review and approve purchase requests. Monitor supply contracts, assure expenditures are within budget and notify management of potential deviations. Recommend changes in procurement policies and practices to management. Answer customer and vendor inquiries and assist other sections with materials acquisition.

Manage, maintain and control inventory. Involves: Manage the receipt, inspection, storage, security and issuance and delivery of material and equipment. Run material releases and computer inventory system. Complete special orders for departmental customers. Trace inventory discrepancies and correct. Prepare activity, progress and special reports. May track and manage section budget. Involves: Verify that monies are expended from each area of the budget properly. Transfer money between accounts to insure fund availability for needed parts and fuel for buses. Prepare budget estimates for parts, materials and fuels inventory. Prepare budget reports daily and monthly.
