Who we are looking for:


We are currently looking for a Materials Manager be based out of Hobart, Indiana. Reporting to Plant Manager, this person will be responsible for ensuring availability of resources and materials in conjunction with production planning/scheduling; provide direction and hands-on involvement for the in-house manufacturing of all steel products; plan and execute daily activities to ensure internal/external customer demands are met.


The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of experience in scheduling and inventory management. Experience in lean manufacturing or business system-based company is a plus.


What you’ll do:


  • Manage material flow for incoming raw material to support the production schedule.
  • Provide regular reports on adherence to forecast and work with operations and finance to understand the impact of changes.
  • Function as key liaison between Operations, Sales, Demand Planning, Procurement and Finance regarding production and scheduling.
  • As part of the monthly forecasting process, review work center capacity and provide feedback to operations management, finance, and demand planning.
  • Manage special projects, continuous improvement activities and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Manage the daily functions of the inventory, scheduling, and receiving teams.
  • Utilize daily production compliance reports for managing daily workloads and communicating manufacturing status.
  • Lead weekly cross functional scheduling meeting and publish rolling capacity schedule.


What you’ll bring:


  • BA/BS in Business Administration, Supply Chain, Engineering, Sciences or equivalent.
  • Lean manufacturing and Kanban experience preferred.
  • JDE experience a plus.
  • AS400 and/or Syteline experience is a plus.
  • Organizational and time management skills; Ability to effectively prioritize tasks and assign responsibilities accordingly.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience with increasing levels of responsibility and background in scheduling and inventory management.
  • Strong computer and mathematical skills; Must have at least an intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel.


Within 3 months, you’ll:


  • Manage production scheduling and reporting for all manufacturing work centers.
  • Gain an understanding of training materials and procedures your team owns.
  • Manage inbound raw material/WIP deliveries and their associated inventories.
  • Understand how your job will help deliver Atkore’s strategy.
  • Complete your Atkore immersion program.


Within 6 months, you’ll:


  • Develop/update training materials and procedures.
  • Audit and resolve reporting variances between JDE and MAPICS.
  • Develop a process to manage OW (Work Order) creation and closure.
  • Actively participate in the creation and approval of new part numbers. (WIP and FG)
  • Develop Cycle Counting program for WIP (production parts and consumables).


Within 12 months, you’ll:


  • Develop and publish 4-week schedules for Hobart Operations.
  • Streamline and/or improve production and downtime reporting.
  • Develop production trends by part number for use in standard cost updates.
  • Refine the forecasting and SIOP (Sales, Inventory, and Operations Planning) process.
