JOB DESCRIPTION


Job Title: Materials Manager

Department: Materials Management & Purchasing

Classification: Exempt

Shift: 1st shift

Reports to: Plant Manager


Job Summary


The Materials Manager manages and oversees overall supply chain operations, including purchasing all raw, component, and finished inventory required to meet the production and customers service needs of the Company. This includes receiving, stocking, issuing and purchasing of the materials required to support the Company’s safety, quality, delivery and operational goals. Also includes setting direction and standard practices for inventory levels, inventory control, planning, scheduling, stocking, manufacturing control, systems and distribution activities of materials used in the internal and external fulfillment of demand. Makes recommendations to improve safety, productivity, quality, and efficiency of operations. Coordinates and resolves issues regarding existing and new products.


Job Responsibilities

  • Supervise the acquisition, movement, and transacting of all material within the manufacturing facility.
  • Manage the outbound shipping process to ensure timely and complete delivery of material to our customers.
  • Supervise the purchase order receipt process to ensure the timely put-away of inventory.
  • Procure all materials according to procedures established by AGCO Purchasing.
  • Work with plant leadership to resolve work center capacity restraints and assist in determination of shop calendars.
  • Lead all production planning and scheduling activities including demand planning, job creation and expediting, and capacity management.
  • Develop and maintain inventory control procedures to ensure inventory accuracy. This includes procedures for receiving and issuing materials, cycle counting, and physical inventory as required.
  • Coordinate temporary or permanent changes to product structures to facilitate manufacturing schedules.
  • Work with Engineering Department to incorporate lower price components into design of equipment.
  • Ensure that all manufacturing job orders, purchase order receipts, inventory transactions, and customer shipments are appropriately entered into MRP system.
  • Advise Sales, Engineering and Accounting of changes in price or delivery of materials.
  • Supervise Production Control employees in all aspects of job responsibilities.
  • Analyze inventory and determine appropriate stock levels and methods to reduce overall levels.
  • Develop and maintain a monitoring system for purchase orders to ensure timely arrival of material required.


Safety Responsibilities

Management personnel are responsible for their individual compliance to specified safety rules and ensuring that they are being followed within their areas of responsibilities. Management is responsible for day-to-day leadership and close observations of supervisors and employees under their direct supervision. Management personnel will be accountable for individual compliance, as well as for, ensuring safety rules and practices are developed and followed within their areas of responsibility. Management responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Driving incident investigations and preventive actions.
  • Responsible for driving accountability inherent to GSI policies and procedures.
  • Make safety a part of daily discussions with employees.
  • Notify the Environmental, Health and Safety Manager for representative or assessments and involvement when new operations, procedures, chemicals, or equipment are introduced into the facility.
  • Participate in safety audits and assessments and take corrective action when necessary.
  • Report all near-misses, incidents, injuries, illnesses, including mobile equipment and property damage.
  • Recognize and facilitate the elimination of any unsafe acts or conditions within the facility.
  • Provide consistent leadership by following appropriate safety rules and procedures.


ESSENTIAL SKILLS


Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management or related field preferred.
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent required.


Qualifications and Experience

  • Familiar with a variety of supply chain concepts, practices and procedures and relies on extensive experience and sound decision making to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Five to seven years of demonstrated experience in production control, purchasing and inventory management with at least three years of progressive leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to take a proactive approach to overcome challenges and achieve results.
  • Must possess a thorough working knowledge of Materials Requirement Planning and be able to maximize its use in management of a manufacturing facility.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office (particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams) and other systems (SQL, MRP, SAP)
  • Accepts responsibility, holds self-accountable for performance.
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills, including excellent interpersonal skills, including leadership, influencing and relationship-building across functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work across levels to build consensus, establish trust, communicate effectively and foster culture change.


Supervisory Responsibility

This position manages employees of the Purchasing Control Department and is responsible for the performance management and hiring of the employees within that department.


Work Environment

The employee will generally work in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. However, the employee will also be in the manufacturing environment. They may be near large machinery and equipment. The noise level in the manufacturing environment is usually loud. The employee is exposed to a variety of extreme conditions including temperatures ranging from 40°F to 105°F. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles.


Physical Demands

The physical demands here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential job functions of this job.


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and frequently required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel; and reach with hands or arms. The employee must be able to stand for up to twelve hours per day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.


Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.


The employee must wear personal protective equipment (i.e. eye protection, respirator, hearing protection, safety shoes, gloves, sleeves, etc.)


Travel

Minimal travel expected.
