The History of Foley Family Wines

In spring of 1996, Bill & Carol Foley purchased 1,000 acres of lush and fertile earth within the then relatively unknown Sta. Rita Hills region of Santa Barbara County. Their plan – produce hand-crafted Chardonnay and Pinot Noir that reflected the best of California’s Central Coast. Named for their two daughters – Lindsey & Courtney – Lincourt Vineyards was born, and with it, the beginning of Foley Family Wines. In the 25 years since, Foley Family Wines has grown into one of the world’s largest producers of fine wine, adding some of the industry’s most valuable wineries, located in the most recognized winemaking regions, including Napa, Sonoma, the Pacific Northwest, and New Zealand. Today, the Foley Family Wines portfolio boasts a number of the most-celebrated names in wine, including Chalk Hill Estate, Chalone, Ferrari-Carano, and Sebastiani.


Job Summary:

Foley Family Wines is looking for a creative and entrepreneurial marketing thought leader to champion our rapidly expanding ultra-premium Spirits portfolio as well as lead key innovation and new brand development activities across our premium wines & spirits portfolio. Reporting the Chief Marketing Officer, this role is a central player and creative leader across several key growth pillars of our company’s long-range strategy. Experience in and passion for building luxury and lifestyle brands with distinctive brand character in a fast-paced, high growth environment is essential to success in this high-profile role.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Lead strategic development of consumer insights-based brand marketing plans and activities to increase brand relevance, create excitement and engagement across target audiences and channels towards delivering profitable business growth.

• Lead internal and external partners towards concepting and executing best-in-class consumer creative campaigns, tools and promotions across the marketing mix (advertising, sponsorships, PR, packaging design, digital, web, social, in-store and direct-to-consumer promotions, events and brand experiences, e-commerce, etc.).

• Develop annual brand budgets for marketing activities and operating expenditures & track; review and sign off on invoices up to approval limit.

• Develop and execute new brand concepts and tactical innovations leveraging consumer and category insights, cultural trends to swiftly unlock marketplace opportunities and company capabilities for profitable growth.

• Build annual marketing activity calendars for key initiatives across brands, establish project timelines and milestones and modify as necessary by continually evaluating opportunities.

• Work with brand team to develop brand visual identity and packaging that creates unique and distinctive brand assets and ensures consistent, coherent communication across the marketing mix.

• Work with digital and brand teams to develop digital strategy to ensure alignment with all other marketing functions.

• Evaluate available internal and external market data to identify larger trends, developments and opportunities in beverage alcohol; perform category and brand/sku competitive analyses

• Interface with Sales, Finance and Operations to align marketing strategy and plan activities to identify opportunities and challenges and take appropriate action as warranted, including supply and operations short and long term planning deliverables.

• Works with brand, trade marketing and PR teams to coordinate supplier meetings, market visits, blitzes, events and any other activities.

• Support executive team on any/all cross-company initiatives.


Education & Experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Marketing, Digital Marketing or equivalent required, advanced degree such as MBA preferred.

• 7+ years progressive performance marketing experience required.

• 3+ years in a leadership role (direct or indirect).

• Demonstrated track record of consumer communications, creative and design thought leadership in luxury or lifestyle categories is a must.

• Experience in marketing leadership roles in beverage alcohol segments, especially premium-to-luxury distilled spirits is highly desired.

• Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, presentation, budgeting, project management (from conception to completion) and planning skills.


Required Knowledge, Skills & Other Abilities:

• Business leadership maturity, comfortable navigating challenges with high degrees of ambiguity in fast-paced, rapidly changing environments

• Strong desire for achievement and accomplishment with a bias for actions and results

• Strong skills in strategy development including brand positioning and development of effective brand communications and programs

• Strong understanding of P&L management, cross-functional orientation and consumer/trade focus

• Fluent in Microsoft Office, Powerpoint, Excel, Outlook, etc.

• Wordpress, Illustrator and In Design Experience a plus
