Job Title: Marketing and Events Specialist

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Hours: Monday – Friday, 40 hours with some weekend and holiday needs as Zoo special events occur.

Summary:

Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium is seeking a Marketing and Event Specialist to assist in the production and execution of marketing special events, advertising activities and other promotional opportunities. This position plays an important role in creating a visually appealing image of Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium as well as Lee G. Simmons Wildlife Safari Park to the community and surrounding areas. This position reports directly to the Marketing and Event Manager.

Responsibilities and Duties (include but not limited to):

• On-site execution of Zoo special events is required and can occur outside of the work week and on holidays.
• Prepare and process all donation requests.
• Communicate messaging and the desired image through press releases. Assist with coordinating press conferences.
• Assist with media outreach, media site visits and public relations.
• Assist the Marketing and Event Manager with reporting needs.
• Successfully execute Zoo special events from start to finish including maintaining a budget, coordinating and monitoring event timelines.
• Develop and maintain non-profit organization membership programming.
• Execute site visit tours for potential new business.
• Assist in establishing Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium and Lee G. Simmons Wildlife Safari Park brands as family fun tourist destinations, as well as a leader in conservation and research to the public, through the media, internal and external communications and local community events.
• Other duties may include public speaking engagements, assisting in marketing research, project management and proofreading of promotional materials.
• Works seamlessly with interdepartmental relationships to successfully coordinate and execute marketing and special event activities.
• In all aspects, the Marketing and Event Specialist fosters positive company, employee and community relationships and acts as a front-line representative of Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium and Lee G. Simmons Wildlife Safari Park.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

• Strong organizational skills and must be able to meet deadlines.
• Good judgment with the ability to make timely and sound decisions.
• Previous public and community relations experience.
• Strong interpersonal, verbal and written skills.
• Versatility, flexibility and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities.
• Ability to handle multiple projects with minimal supervision.
• Knowledge of special event management and/or operations.
• Must be able to lead a team efficiently.
• Ability to deal effectively with a diversity of individuals at all organizational levels.
• Customer service oriented.

Educational Qualifications:

• Four-year college degree in Marketing, Communications, Event Planning or any other related field.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to do the following:

• Lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. occasionally.
• Work in various weather conditions, as well as both indoor event room and outdoor exotic animal/zoo environments.
• The employee is frequently required to walk and/or sit up to 8 hours.
• Have the ability to move between multiple venues and work areas of the Zoo.
• Stand; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear.
