The Market Research and Media Monitoring Associate will help design, execute, and deliver social media listening reports for University Communications. The Associate will work closely with the marketing group, leading the listening in the social media space, analyzing online conversations about higher education, and the university as a whole. They will provide monitoring for emerging crises and potential threats to escalate to SLT, crisis and security teams, and providing crisis reporting around sensitive issues.
Through data analysis, they will forecast trends important trends relevant to the University and identify new opportunities for the Communications team to engage with. The Associate will oversee the setup and implementation of weekly, monthly and ad hoc reports to distribute across various university stakeholders, presenting insights and recommendations based on the data.
Accountabilities:
- Work with the social media manage to collaborate with a varied set of subject matter experts and stakeholders to effectively address crisis as they arise, as well as define a proactive issues management approach
- Using market research methods, you will work collaboratively across multiple groups in University Communications to track media topics and online conversations relevant to USC, forecasting trending topics, and inform university’s marketing, editorial and media relations groups. Maintain a recurring schedule of listening and trendspotting.
- Assist in improving and enhancing current social listening practices that help assess brand reputation, with a working knowledge managing today’s leading social media and analytics platforms.
- Conduct peer institution analysis to monitor consumer response to industry issues. Gather insights based on data by analyzing key audiences, university peers and the higher education marketplace, consolidating information into actionable items.
- Monitor and generate analytical reporting on online conversations and sentiment around the university during a crisis, as well as on an ongoing basis. This position will play an important role managing the reputation of the university.
- Experience using with leading analytics and social media listening tools, such as Qualtrics, Google Trends, Google Analytics, Sprinklr, NetBase, Social Studio, MuckRack, Sprout Social, Falcon.io, etc.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The university reserves the right to add or change duties at any time. Strong organizational and planning skills are vital for this position.
The hourly rate range for this position is $28.55 - $31.28. Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree; Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education. Minimum Experience: 3 years of experience in marketing, social media, media relations, business analytics or other relevant fields. Minimum Skills: Proven experience working with leading social media monitoring and listening tools (e.g., Google Analytics, NetBase, Meltwater, Social Studio). Expertise with leading social media platforms and backend analytics. Excellent written and oral communications skills. Demonstrated experience with social media management, managing both public and private online communities. Excellent organizational and planning skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
