The Manager, Event Programming position will report directly to the Associate Director, Event Programming and will be required to work with both internal and external resources. The Event Programming Manager is responsible for content development, in service to different event audiences. While the primary event for this position is Comicpalooza, the Manager, Event Programming will likely provide support on other events.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (individual duties, assignments and responsibilities required of the position)


  • Manage the CP365 program, a Comicpalooza initiative that provides smaller, year-round meetings & events, often in cooperation with other groups, that extend awareness of Comicpalooza and create opportunities for various fandoms to meet. The Manager, Event Programming is expected to generate a calendar of events, determining audiences and
  • Deliverables based on current strategic priorities; as well as, finding and maintaining relationships with new partners in the Greater Houston community in support of delivering the CP365 events.
  • Create a schedule for and report on publicly submitted panels, including when track leads are responsible for review and approval. Track and provide weekly reporting on programming submissions.
  • Through the use of surveys, research, and other data-finding means, determine programming content, including panels, activities, and special attractions, that will interest attendees and drive attendee growth, which will have tangible goals and supporting KPIs.
  • Coordinate with Marketing on messaging and deadlines related to Programming content, or other information, for use across various channels including the website, social media, etc.
  • Coordinate with Operations, along with other appropriate event staff and volunteers for on-site deliverables that will result in an excellent CP experience for everyone, including attendees.
  • Deliver guidance and necessary data to track leads so they have the information to deliver on current strategy.
  • Manage the process for publicly submitted panels by assigning submissions to the proper track lead, and also serve as a final reviewer to ensure the curated content aligns with objectives; the content is brand and event appropriate; and the descriptions and titles are engaging for the audience.
  • Develop original content as well as work with third parties to help develop content that serves various audiences.
  • Post-event, collect and interpret after-action reports from track leads to ensure a comprehensive review of Programming. Glean insights that help direct new strategies and initiatives, identify issues and recommend resolutions; as well as, prepare, implement, and manage new processes that mitigate problems and ease burdens.
  • Develop the schedule and room assignments for approved panels, ensuring panels are placed in rooms with appropriate equipment and, when possible, confirming that panels with similar audiences are not competing.
  • Work on other assignments related to the foregoing or in general support of the Event
  • Enter and update information in software tools in support of the overall process, whether for internal purposes or to publish for attendees and/or other stakeholders.
  • The Manager, Event Programming may need to provide buy-in when developing proposals to sponsors, promotional partners, or other stakeholders; and/or support the delivery of programmatic commitments in such agreements.
  • Help develop training materials and guidelines for track leads, panelists, and volunteers to better ensure all are informed and prepared for the event.
  • Compile a post-event recap report with findings, metrics, recommendations, and results of the goals set forth in the Programming Strategy created in the off-season.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: (special training, certifications, college degree, etc.)


  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent training in events preferred.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:


  • Adept at learning new technologies quickly.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading abilities that guide, inform, and influence audiences.
  • Deadline driven and goal oriented, excellent at owning and prioritizing tasks, understanding the time necessary to deliver before committing, and working with required resources effectively so that objectives are met.
  • Strong interpersonal, positive, and proactive communication skills
  • Great attention to detail in all activities with a constant desire to deliver quality work.
