About The Role

The Global Markets Planning and Insights Team leads the charge to empower the Global Markets organization to run effectively, identify key business opportunities, and operationalize key strategic initiatives.

The Competitive Strategy and Insights team partners with key global leaders in the business to identify, synthesize and quantify, competitive opportunity across multiple business categories. The team spans skills across research, strategy, analytics and executive reporting. The Manager, Competitive Strategy will require strong analytical and strategic savvy, the ability to gather and analyze loads of competitive data to distill to practical insights, and the skill to convey compelling stories for eBay’s senior leadership team. This individual will be responsible for designing and implementing a series of research initiatives that help eBay better understand where to play, how to win, and how to optimize business strategy.

We are looking for a new member of our Competitive Strategy & Insights team who has a love for competitive strategy and analytics. You’ll use all this intel to drive winning sales plays, with a reputation for delivering simple and compelling insights with urgency and integrity. You have a love for people, a brain for analysis, and a roll-up-your-sleeves' attitude.

The Ideal Candidate Will Be Able To

• Develop insightful market intelligence about key industry trends and communicate with the global marketplace leaders regarding their strategic implications
• Able to develop strong professional relationships and influence others in a matrixed organization. They will be able to engage and influence with various leaders and cross functional partners throughout the organization to move project deliverables forward
• Author executive level reports regularly and make informed recommendations to key partners and influencers teasing out key concrete strategy recommendations
• Ability to extract insights from data and translate that into clear, practical recommendations. Stellar analytical skills and experience crafting/visualizing business strategy, and experience in manipulating large data sets/ interpreting data trends
• Manage multiple ongoing projects in an organized fashion including the development of clear project plans, partnering with team members across the organization, and developing and delivering key deliverables in a timely manner
• Analyze research data to build compelling, insightful storylines that illuminate opportunities and threats for the business, ability to go deep into financial statements and reports to understand key trends and build out models supporting recommendations
• Develop and manage vendor partnerships within the technology and competitive insights industry working with both new and established players in the market
• Conduct quantitative and qualitative studies that provide guidance on how to prioritize and win in key market segments learning from our core competitors

What You Need To Succeed

• 2+ years of strategy consulting or banking experience required
• Top-tier undergraduate degree and MBA a plus
• Excellence in structured thinking with superior analytical and modelling capabilities
• Ability to communicate clearly and simply with mid-level and senior audiences
• SQL skills a plus
• Highly collaborative – be fun, outgoing, and easy to work with!
• Experience in commerce/consumer internet a plus
• Relentless but relationship-driven – ensuring that debates and discussions not only lead to good outcomes for all involved, but also set a positive tone for multi-functional teams

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment in California, Washington, or New York City is expected in the range below.

$106,800 - $162,800

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employees will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
