Job Description
Position Overview
The Manager, Communication and Influence is an integral member of the Communications, Policy & Advocacy (CPA) team. The Manager will report to the Vice President for Strategic Communications and Advocacy, and work closely with other members of the CPA team. The Manager will provide communication, advocacy, and networking advice and work will focus primarily on the Foundation’s institutional objectives, including its growing focus on climate change.
The Manager’s role is three-fold: (1) manage/lead the development and implementation of influence and communications strategies tied to CPA’s institutional objectives; (2) work with the broader CPA team to support new initiatives related to climate change and more; (3) support the production and distribution of communication products.
A significant function of this role includes supporting the CPA team to help drive institutional initiatives and coalitions that engage internal and external stakeholders. This is one of the primary ways the Foundation informs on its policy work and program priorities to those who can effectively create change and impact.
The Manager brings experience and expertise to develop and execute influence strategies using their advocacy and communication experience and networks to expand the reach of the Rockefeller Foundation and inform, inspire, and influence key stakeholders to take action that creates impact.
Pay Range: $115,854- $147,305. This represents the present low and high end of the Foundation’s pay range for this position. Actual pay will vary based on various factors, including but not limited to experience.
Work Schedule: This role is on a hybrid work schedule, and required to be in the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
Principal Duties And Responsibilities
  • Manage narrative and message development, media outreach, organizing strategic convenings, and engaging leadership such as the Foundation’s Annual Letter.
  • Work closely with digital team colleagues to develop the strategic thinking and project management of digital initiatives including campaigns, digital assets, social media content, data visualization, videos, RF Breakthroughs, and website content.
  • Support in writing, editing, or reviewing internal/external communications, including content for Slack, Board Notes, annual letters, impact reports, etc.
  • Strategize, create, and implement communications plans for all related announcements including internal and digital planning and drafting tied to institutional objectives.
  • Serve as CPA lead for EVP of Communications, Policy, and Advocacy in meetings as necessary.
  • Contribute to the establishment of unique and mutually beneficial external partnerships that help advance institutional core objectives through relationship development and management.
  • Create and implement an effective project management system to ensure that key events, activities, milestones, and announcements are being proactively tracked and addressed by CPA and other appropriate staff.
  • Manage and lead the development and implementation of influence and communications strategies tied to institutional initiatives such as climate change.
  • Work collaboratively with key internal stakeholders and associated grantees ensuring positive cooperation and relations are always maintained.
  • Manage CPA activities tied to convenings and gatherings, particularly in its New York City and Washington, DC locations.
  • Coordinate and manage the legal approval process of all external RF materials, including grantee materials.
  • Provide recommendations to digital team colleagues including messaging, briefing memos, decks, talking points, and social media content tied to institutional objectives.
  • Manage appropriate consultants including review and approval of all deliverables as necessary.
Education, Experience, And Skills
  • At ease navigating between all sectors – nonprofit, government, and corporate
  • Superb interpersonal skills and professional presence
  • Strong understanding of climate change and policy
  • Experience working in a matrixed environment with multiple teams and multiple interests
  • An ability to think strategically, analyze critically, and translate ideas and insights into action through coherent and viable programs and plans
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • At least 7 years of experience in communications and influence work
  • Proven track record in managing complex plans, deadlines, and budgets
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly organized with the ability to multi-task
  • Experience in handling sensitive information
