PURPOSE OF DIVISION
The purpose of Houston Airport System (HAS) Maintenance, General Maintenance Services, business unit is to effectively deliver self-performed maintenance services at each of the three HAS airports.
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The purpose of the Maintenance Mechanic I position is to prevent mechanical failure of equipment, to identify and correct safety hazards, and inspect, repair, clean and maintain several types of equipment: pumps, miscellaneous rotating and reciprocating equipment, plumbing equipment (sinks, commodes, urinals, flush valves, and faucets) and machinery throughout the airport complex. This position may be assigned duties at all Houston Airport System facilities including IAH, HOU, and EFD. "Must be able to pass a criminal background check, obtain and maintain federally mandated security clearances where required."
The Maintenance Mechanic I duties will include but are not limited to:

• Process vehicles and equipment for intakes and salvages
• Inventory checks and audits.
• Performs safety inspections, preventative maintenance, lubrications and minor repairs to vehicles, equipment and other facility equipment as needed. Will use hand tools and equipment.
• Reports any unsafe conditions of the vehicles, equipment, and facilities.
• Drives vehicles and equipment to vendors and other locations for services and repairs within a reasonable amount of time.
• Develops and implement weekly maintenance schedules for vendors and in-house maintenance services.
• Uploads and maintains maintenance records and invoices in software's and emails in a timely manner. Creates work orders and work requests. Will occasionally provide reports to the fleet manager as needed.

OTHER FUNCTIONS MAY INCLUDE:

• Gathers and submits quotes and invoices and uploads them in the maintenance systems.
• Will handle fuel deliveries and check tank fuel levels and provide reports.
• Will fuel, clean and vacuum vehicles and equipment.
• Will provide inventory checks and audits, maintain records and provide reports.
• Assists customers with writing work orders and dropping off vehicles

WORKING CONDITIONS
The position involves considerable physical exertion, such as regular climbing of ladders, lifting of heavy objects (up to 80 pounds) on a highly frequent basis and/or assuming awkward positions for long periods of time. There are routine exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution. The position may involve periodic exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises and minor burns. Requires the ability to make closely coordinated eye/hand movements within very fine tolerance and/or calibration demands; or the ability to make rapid closely coordinated eye/hand movements on a patterned response space within somewhat fine tolerance demands; or the ability to make coordinated eye/hand movements within fine tolerances with large equipment as an extension of the worker.
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Specialized training in principles, procedures, practices, routines or techniques in a specific area or trade which might normally be acquired through up to 18 months of education or training beyond the high school level. Vocational competence in the operation of mechanical or electronic equipment may be required.
Experience Requirements
No experience is required.
License Requirements
In some departments, may require a valid Texas driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving.
May require a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
PREFERENCES
Preferences will be given to applicant with one year experience as a mechanic helper or mechanic.
