Coyote Ridge Corrections Center
Full Time Permanent

COYOTE RIDGE CORRECTIONS CENTER (CRCC) is located on a 60-acre site about 40 miles north of the Tri-Cities. CRCC is comprised of two-complexes. The Medium Security Complex (MSC) is a 2,048 bed facility that houses incarcerated individuals with Medium and MI3 Custody. MSC consists of 4 Hybrid units and 4 Medium units. The Minimum Security Unit (MSU) is a 480 bed facility that houses assisted living and MI2 Custody incarcerated individuals. MSU consists of 2 units. This is a work/program orientated facility that offers many educational, vocational, and self-help programs and Class II and Class III Correctional Industries work programs.
Whether the work is inside a prison, in community corrections, or in an administrative office, the Washington State Department of Corrections professional staff experience a high degree of personal satisfaction knowing they are creating environments in which all incarcerated individuals can learn to make choices that contribute to a safer society.

Duties

Under the supervision of the Construction Maintenance Project Supervisor. Supervises a crew of three (3) to ten (10) incarcerated individuals. Performs skilled welding fabrication and mechanical work on machinery, and mechanical equipment in the 2648-bed minimum and medium security corrections facility, which includes housing units, administration and support buildings. This position also supervises the Minimum Security Unit (MSU) Welding/Fabrication shop and assists other department supervisors.

The duties of this position include but are not limited to:


  • Perform routine maintenance on all facility mechanical equipment fixtures, machinery, plumbing, electrical, welding, machinist work, metal fabrication and carpentry.
  • Maintain adequate spare parts inventory and purchase order records.
  • Research and create purchase orders.
  • Perform work orders of many types having to do with multiple trades.
  • Maintain preventative maintenance records on equipment and machinery.
  • Supervises the welding/fabrication shop and is responsible for the maintenance of air compressors.
  • Maintain all required tool control documentation, incarcerated individuals payroll records, incarcerated individual safety training documents, and all other documentation and records required of this position.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by a supervisor.
  • Work with maintenance department supervisors and staff to coordinate assignments.
  • Draft technical drawings and develop equipment specifications.
  • Keep accurate records of incarcerated individuals hours worked and any disciplinary action taken.
  • Inspect buildings, equipment and fixtures to determine need for maintenance.
  • Provide daily documentation of work orders completed in Micromain.
  • Supervise a work crew of at least three (3) incarcerated individuals.
  • Assure the incarcerated individuals attend Safety Orientation training, to include equipment specific training for safe operations.
  • Follow facility procedure for interviewing, hiring and terminating incarcerated individuals.
  • Always model excellent safety and security practices for the incarcerated individuals.
  • Read blueprints, schematics, and specifications.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Four years of metal fabrication experience.
  • Knowledge of equipment, tools, and safety devices used in oxyacetylene, TIG, MIG, electric, and heliarc welding, fabricating and cutting.
  • Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
  • Knowledge of operating shop equipment such as welders, drill press, grinder, band saws, hoists, air tools and jacks for the purpose of repairing, designing, and fabricating parts, tools, or accessories.

Desired Qualifications:
  • One year experience and/or knowledge in the following areas: carpentry, plumbing, doors/locks, electrical, electronics and air compressors.
  • Six months Prison/Corrections and/or Law enforcement experience.

Telework Details
This position may be allocated for telework. Work may be performed from your home or another offsite location within the state of Washington using a reliable internet or cellular hotspot service at that time. Employees are expected to perform assigned duties in a safe manner, to take proper care all state-issued equipment, and maintain confidentiality of all information in possession while working offsite. Employees will be required to commute to a Department of Corrections facility or field office as business requires, to potentially include components of the onboarding process. Some offices will have a “drop in” area available, however, a dedicated workspace within a DOC facility will not be provided.
