Position Purpose
Serve as a team member, performing custodial and simple maintenance tasks to maintain cleanliness and care of facilities. Provide customer service for residential students and conferees.

Description of Duties

• Construct simple items such as door stops and bookshelves; make routine repairs to furniture, locks, floors, walls, ceilings; clean and paint surfaces.
• Set-up and move furniture.
• Under the direction of the supervisor, perform minor electrical, plumbing, and carpentry repairs including plumbing fixtures, lights and partitions; clean clogged drains and sewer lines.
• Operate a computerized maintenance management system.
• May manually or with self-propelled equipment remove snow or debris from sidewalks, stairs, driveways, entry ways; mow grass; help maintain campus grounds.
• Assist maintenance staff in completing repairs and projects.
• May operate motorized equipment.

Perform all duties of an HFS Custodian including:

• May operate high-pressure washer.
• Strip, clean, buff and apply finish to floors; use high-speed floor buffers/polishers; vacuum and clean carpets.
• Use and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools such as a vacuum, broom, mop, squeegee, or ladder for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets and furniture.
• Wash vents, radiators, light fixtures, waste receptacles.
• Wash interior and easily accessible exterior windows.
• Clean chalkboards; sweep, mop and vacuum floors; empty wastebaskets, trash and recycle containers; empty and clean ashtrays and cigarette urns; replace light bulbs.
• Dust and clean walls, doors, windows, woodwork, furniture, etc.
• Perform cleaning and related duties in areas within a reasonable distance from buildings using hand-operated tools or small power equipment to remove snow or debris, or to sweep sidewalks or stairs.
• Perform various duties related to students checking in and checking out.
• Set up and take down equipment such as chalkboards and easels and furnishings such as folding chairs and tables needed for meetings, conferences and events.
• Maintain simple records and produce simple reports.
• Drive University vehicles to deliver items and commute to various HFS locations in or around campus.
• Secure building when facilities are not in use by checking for unlocked doors and windows; report unauthorized occupants.
• Perform related duties as required.
• Clean and sanitize restrooms, shower rooms and fixtures in accordance with established procedures and standards; refill restroom dispenser.
• Report need for repairs and maintenance.
• Inventory, sort and issue linen and bedding; keep student room inventory records; change and make beds.
• Clean kitchenettes, elevators and stairwells.
• Follow written and/or verbal instructions regarding the use of chemicals, supplies and equipment; comply with safety policies and procedures.
• Vacuum furniture, drapery and walls.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Physical ability to perform work and one year of experience in custodial or general maintenance work. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

• A satisfactory outcome from the employment verification and reference check processes.
• Possession of a valid State of Washington Driver’s License. (The Maintenance Custodian 1 needs to drive a university vehicle and deliver items to various sites on campus as needed.)

* Maintenance Custodians may be assigned to work in a residence hall, apartment complex, office/work area or UW Dining facility. This position may be assigned to support the HFS maintenance team during peak volume times.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $3,260.00 - $3,936.00 per month
