Job Description
Description Under supervision, performs a variety of customer service and clerical tasks; performs tasks in connection with checking out or checking in library materials, issuing library cards, shelving books and filing of library materials. Exercises no supervision. Examples of Duties Examples of duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Answers general inquiries; routes to appropriate staff if further assistance is needed;
  • Assists with performing the tasks necessary for opening/closing the library; and
  • Performs clerical activities such as filing, typing, and data entry;
  • Sorts books, publications, and other items according to established procedures and returns them to shelves or designated areas;
  • Ability to work in a standard library environment;
  • Performs routine circulation tasks required to serve the public including checking the status of patron accounts; collecting fines and fees; issuing new or replacement library cards; checking in and out library materials;
  • Must be able to communicate with others and to exchange information accurately;
  • Identifies or performs minor repairs on damaged library materials;
  • Assists patrons with material searches and the use of library equipment;
  • Library experience is highly desirable. Education:
  • One year of clerical experience including some use of computers, interacting with the general public, and providing customer service.
  • Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications Experience:
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, twist; push and pull;
  • Equivalent to a high school diploma. Special Requirements: Essential functions and duties require the following physical abilities and work environment:
  • Assists in ordering supplies and materials and receiving orders;
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, holidays, and weekends.
