Job Description

POSITION TITLE: Library Assistant
SUPERVISED BY: Director of Library & Information Services
FLSA STATUS: 60% FTE
EFFECTIVE DATE: August 1, 2023
COMPENSATION: $25.00-$30.00 per hour

Position Summary
This is a 60% FTE position, supporting student and faculty use of our library?s physical and digital resources, including 16,000 print volumes, an extensive eBook collection, college-level databases and research platforms.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Maintain circulation system (track overdue materials ? generate notices, follow through with students, parents, and business office when necessary);
  • Participate in the mission of SHC and the charisms of the Daughters of Charity and De La Salle Christian Brothers and Department of Catholic Schools through their formational programs;
  • Facilitate a quiet and engaging learning environment in the library;
  • Research age-appropriate, authoritative websites to include online research guides;
  • Maintain print and periodical collections;
  • Model for students the characteristics of a Lasallian/Vincentian educator;
  • Create rotating creative, eye-catching, and interactive library displays;
  • Assist with scheduling use of library spaces;
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Open the library at 7:00am each school day;
  • Promote SHC?s mission, philosophy and Integral Student Outcomes;
  • Help develop a diverse, inclusive library collection as part of SHC?s strategic initiatives to strengthen meaningful diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging practices, especially strategies to support equitable learning, culturally responsive teaching, social emotional learning, and universal design for learning (as stipulated by the DEIB strategic plan adopted by SHC Board of Regents in 2021;
  • Assist in the preparation of digital learning resources;
  • Guide students and faculty in their use of library catalog, online databases, Chromebooks, printers, and other learning technology;
  • Assist with research, ready reference, reader?s advisory, and other daily patron services to all students, faculty, and staff;
  • Engage in professional development, especially our four-year New Faculty Professional Development and Support Program, to be a reflective and growth-minded practitioner, who integrates best and next teaching practices rooted in the SHC mission;
  • Catalog and process materials in a variety of formats;
