Job Description
Definition and Class Characteristics


Interviews will be held the week of August 21st


This temporary Penn Valley Library position will work between 20 and 30 hours per week, and accrue sick leave. The incumbent will work 16 weeks with the possibility of an extension.


Ready to be part of the library field? Consider working as a part-time Library Assistant I in Penn Valley. This is an introductory classification where individuals will perform the more defined customer service and processing functions, and the higher-level tasks in a training capacity.


Vital Duties Include


  • Search for and locate books, reference and other materials within and outside the County's Library System upon patron requests; send books to other branch libraries
  • Shelve books, periodicals, and other library materials
  • Assist professional staff with designated library programs, displays, and community outreach/promotions
  • Provides excellent customer service to customers & the general public
  • Operate the library circulation desk; charge and discharge books, periodicals and other library materials; register new patrons, explain library rules and procedures and issue library cards
A library assistant is an integral part of advancing your career in the field of library whose mission is to focus community attention on the value of the public library system. This position is crafted for individuals who have graduated from high school and have at least one year of clerical work experience which includes customer service activities. No college degree is required and if you have the knowledge of general functions of library service, that's a plus!

Sick Leave


Temporary County employees shall accrue at the rate of one (1) hour of sick leave for each thirty (30) hours worked. Temporary County employees can accrue a maximum of 48 hours of sick leave per fiscal year.


Medical Benefits


Temporary employees whose assignments average 30 hours per week or more are eligible to enroll in County-sponsored medical benefits.
